This is fascinating! Is there a way for individual researchers to use this insight in order to identify whether their online surveys have been answered (in part) by bots rather than human respondents?

AI polls can lean on racial or partisan stereotypes, a new @pewresearch.org study shows. An experimental AI poll found that 97% of Hispanic adults in the US were likely to follow the World Cup. The actual figure – based on human respondents – was 43%. www.pewresearch.org/data-labs/20...
Screenshot of a September 2026 Pew Research Center study about AI polls. The study shows that AI polls can take attitudes that are reasonably common among certain demographic and partisan subgroups and portray them as nearly ubiquitous.

President Trump does not have the power to unilaterally change Title IX. LGBTQ students continue to be protected from discrimination under federal civil rights law. With the administration's continued cruel anti-trans actions, schools must not waver in their commitment to protecting queer students.

It’s been over a year since this statement went up, but every time I read it I am appalled. This is the US government telling people that its own data collection efforts (in this case, from the CDC) are “extremely inaccurate and disconnected from the truth” because they measure gender.

I know the word “Orwellian” gets thrown around quite a bit, but the idea that the government can simply assert that a phrase in common discourse is HEREBY EDITED is just absurd.

There’s a lot that’s been written about the discourse of sex-positivity and how it’s tied to the history of white women — for whom sex was allegedly restricted (e.g., in the Victorian era) — whereas for women of color, sex was generally exploited rather than constrained.

This is a powerful example of how the alleged fight against “slut-shaming” often leads people—usually women—to be pressured into sexual situations. I saw this at my alma mater, Oberlin College, during our annual Safer Sex Night events. Not everyone feels “liberated” by the promise of promiscuity.

I Can Protect His Future, but She Can’t Be Helped: Himpathy
and Hysteria in Administrator Rationalizations of
Institutional Betrayal
Nicole Bedera
Department of Sociology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
ABSTRACT
It is well-established fact that sexual assault survivors who
report the violence they endured are retraumatized by the
reporting process, but there is limited research on how these
institutional betrayals are enacted. The current study draws on
ethnographic observation and interview data to explore how 24
administrators use gendered rationalization frames to justify
betrayal in Title IX cases. Specifically, administrators invoke
himpathy to define their primary role as protecting the futures
of young men. To defend this view from critique, they condemn
how survivors use Title IX by casting them as hysterical women
who are either mistaken in labeling an experience as sexual
assault or suffering from trauma too severe for a Title IX process
to repair. Taken together, these frames portray institutional
betrayal as moral, even as these ideologies reinforce gender
inequality.

This is a great essay! I find some of it unfair to Durkheim (e.g., “it begs incredulity to assume tight-knit, mechanical communities no longer exist” seems like a straw man). And I do think other theorists cover Book III of Suicide, notably Whitney Pope. But I appreciate your analysis here!

This is an excellent conversation. Good on @perrybaconjr.bsky.social and the @newrepublic.com for engaging a trans journalist on this topic. @evanurquhart.bsky.social's point here is so under-appreciated. You have to message what you believe, not what you think some imagined subgroup wants to hear.
So I think what a Democrat signals when they shift on this very low salience issue that no one cares about is, I don’t really believe anything. I’m just trying to say whatever I think will win your vote. I’m wishy-washy. I’m not really a fighter. I think that’s kind of the risk that they take, in terms of playing into some of these other stereotypes of Democrats.
