One of the fun things about tidepooling is running into other people who like looking closely at the weird wonders of the world -- a gaggle of local science teachers were crawling over the rocks too, and one of them showed me this orange-peel doris (Acanthodoris lutea) (@maureenbug.bsky.social!)

I get that people are deeply annoyed by iNat right now, but despite its deep flaws, I hope people can see that a better iNat, both the site functionality and the community, is worth fighting for. Here's my personal perspective.

@asm.org this better not be anticipatory obedience. I have 5 lab members planning on going to ASM microbe this year. I will absolutely pivot to another meeting if ASM gives in to anti-DEI efforts.

On the third day of #Crustmas, my true love gave to me Three triangular Phrynolambrus with a bajillion spikes
crab illustration seen from above. its body is nearly perfectly triangular. the legs and claws are relatively stubby and compact, but the right claw is slightly bigger than the left. it's covered in bumps and spines all over.

On the first day of #Crustmas, my true love gave to me One Uca fiddler crab from west of Panama City
crab illustration seen from above. the body is wide and almost rectangular, eyes suspended on long stalks. most importantly its right claw is as long as its carapace's width, while the left claw is tiny.

it's so wild to me that the #InverteFest demographics are now so different, nobody is aware of the Dorito Crab lore anymore. thanks, twitterpocalypse.
four step drawing tutorial
the text says: step 1: draw dorito
the image is of a trianglethe text says: step 2: 2 eyes, 2 claws
the image shows the triangle growing crab claws and two eyes near the topthe text says: step 3: 4 legs on each side
the image shows the triangle growing a little nub on the back with legs sprouting from itthe text says: step 4: worship dorito crab
the image is now of a complete crab with triangular body but with illuminati eye inside the triangle and there's background glow behind it
