The AC is out at ICE's detention facility in Newark, where it currently feels like 107 degrees. Detainees say not even the ventilation is working, and that the water is dirty. Health inspectors recently tried to inspect the facility. They were turned away. www.nj.com/politics/202...

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

If an official commits an impeachable offense and nobody acts to impeach, it is no longer an impeachable offense. People who oppose impeachment as “pointless” because it seems unlikely to result in removal do not understand this very simple point and seem unwilling to even try to understand it.

Per NY Times’s Michael Grynbaum on X, this is Sharyn Alfonsi’s email to her “60 Minutes” colleagues in full:
News Team,
Thank you for the notes and texts. I apologize for not reaching out earlier.
I learned on Saturday that Bari Weiss spiked our story, INSIDE CECOT, which was supposed to air tonight. We (Ori and I) asked for a call to discuss her decision. She did not afford us that courtesy/opportunity.
Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now-after every rigorous internal check has been met is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.
We requested responses to questions and/or interviews with DHS, the White House, and the State Department. Government silence is a statement, not a VETO. Their refusal to be interviewed is a tactical maneuver designed
to kill the story.
If the administration's refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, wehave effectively handed them a "kill switch" for any reporting they find inconvenient.
If the standard for airing a story becomes
"the government must agree to be
interviewed," then the government effectively gains control over the 60 Minutes broadcast.
We go from an investigative powerhouse to a stenographer for the state.
These men risked their lives to speak with us.
We have a moral and professional obligation to the sources who entrusted us with their
stories. Abandoning them now is a betrayal of the most basic tenet of journalism: giving voice to the voiceless.
CBS spiked the Jeffrey Wigand interview due to legal concerns, nearly destroying the credibility of this broadcast. It took years to recover from that "low point." By pulling this story to shield an administration, we are repeating that history, but for political optics rather than legal ones.We have been promoting this story on social media for days. Our viewers are expecting it.
When it fails to air without a credible
explanation, the public will correctly identify this as corporate censorship. We are trading 50 years of "Gold Standard" reputation for a single week of political quiet.
I care too much about this broadcast to watch
it be dismantled without a fight.

The White House has been caught. The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims. In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

AI is taking over our political economy, incl education. INthe near future AI will replace many (millions?) of jobs which will 'look great' in the stock market (corps will slash their costs associated with salaries, healthcare, hiring, retirement, etc) but will wreck havoc on average people.

when you see something hypocritical or duplicitous & it's obvious to you but not other people there's usually something at work 'under the surface' for that person to make 'the hypocritical to others' entirely rational for them hypocritical behavior has deeper coherent logic that makes it rational

I'm preaching on this tomorrow: "He (Jesus) set free those who were held in slavery their entire lives by the fear of death." Heb 2.15 Why does freedom from the fear of death matter? How does this liberation from the fear of death change us? What are we able to be + do now that we weren't before?

"and wanting to justify himself he asked, 'who is my neighbor?'" (Lk 10.29) same vibes as today's: "hey i'm just asking questions" "i like to play the devils advocate" "what about this other thing" Questions do work. In some contexts "who is my neighbor?" does good work. In others it doesn't.
