I humbly offer Margo Price and Sturgill Simpson to this list.

It looks like grandpa's abandoned farmstead to people where I live. His kids and grandkids mostly moved to find jobs a generation ago. People stopped living there when he died. Now, his land and his neighbors land is run by somebody else. It emblematic of the hollowing out of rural America.

I am struggling to figure out if "popular songs" means something different now, or i just got old? We used to have a common experience with whatever was on the radio or MTV. Now, we can all settle into curated genres. But i have no idea what isngetting played in the school parking lot, either.

Have you ever noticed how quickly "let's get a picture" can end a perfectly pleasant party? People just dont ho back to socializing and start packing up.

I've made this observation many times at my kid's sports. Parents sacrifice experiencing something happening in front of them in exchange for capturing a bunch of video they will never watch again.

It has been interesting watching old fashioned's take off in the rest of the country as a trendy cocktail and not a way to consume cheap brandy and plenty of it.

You haven't lived until you've lived in a place where the grocery store has an entire cheese aisle, the convenience store has a walk in beer cooler, and the supper club on County Road W (as opposed to County Road UU) serves a brandy old fashioned with pan fried walleye on friday night.

Its crazy how much muscle memory a person has years later. I could still absolutely dismantle anybody born after 1988 in techmo superbowl, even if i dont exploit the glitches.

Hunter Thompson had that line. Something like if you look close enough, you can see the place where the wave broke and rolled back to the sea, as a metaphor for the hope of the 60's. I feel very much this way about how are collective response to covid ran out of steam. We had a chance for a while

I mean, think about it. If you go back to when the pumpkins were relevant, the rolling stones would have been the same age then as the pumpkins are now, and they would not have been on the same bill

I look at that lineup and think "wow. Im old". I imagine the nearly 60 year old Billy Corgan is going to present that dynamic in sharp relief.

Local bar here serves a variation it calls an olive burger. Its a burger with a pile of sliced green olives and a thick slice of cream cheese. Much better than it sounds.

"Verify your age" My first car required I take into consideration season, temperature, and vibes to figure out how many times to pump the accelerator before turning the key and praying "please don't be flooded" to whatever diety I thought may intervene in a 1978 chevy.

Its like playing peek-a-boo with a toddler. Twice is fun, three times because you are there, but any more and everyone feels a little awkward.

I really enjoyed this episode. In many ways, it was my favorite so far. Like others, I had never heard of GTO, but at this point, you have earned my complete trust on subject matter. This one did not disappoint at all, and i will be recommending it to friends.

Still the case in rural North Dakota. What the GPS considers "roads" encompasses a large range of potential surfaces. I have had to reverse a mile or more at times because of it.

In my experience, the 3rd or 4th day of working in the heat, when you think you are getting 'used to it', or when it gets a few degrees cooler and you let your guard down is when you can get in trouble.

On the other hand, the ads are so burned in for me that had you told me 15 minutes ago that it was still being sold, I would have not even questioned it.

I wonder how many people were at that show? Cedar Falls is like 50000 people, and probably a bit less in 1975, right?

The speed and lack of percieved transparency from building these things has not created trust. Locally, going from announcement to approval to breaking ground on a 3 billion dollar facility in a few days directly ahead of a North Dakota winter certainly left people talking.

You know what is missing? Suicidal Tendencies. They would almost be on Mt Punkmore, but apparently not this list.

I have heard that song for like 40 years or something, and I am still find different ways to inturpret it. I've come to think that lefty is set up in opposition to poncho. Poncho went in a blaze of glory, but lefty was some guy from Ohio that fizzled out. They were from different times.

Thinking more, I appreciated some of these without ever really "liking" them. I understand why they are on the list, but they just didn't resonate. That doesn't mean they're overrated or I'm not sophisticated enough. It just is what it is

I enjoy english lit and have read many of these. Some of them take a lot of effort and were not easy to read, but they are still art, and sometimes appreciating art is hard work. Not entirely unlike how I feel about captain beefheart or something.

On a pure lark, i googled him, and it appears that he had a successful, if straight laced, career in the ministry and liturgical music publishing. He may have been a fish out of water at that show.
