Front cover to Flatland (1884) by Edwin Abbott Abbott, who died #onthisday in 1926. Read Ian Stewart's introduction to the strange tale of A. Square's geometric adventures, the first ever book that could be described as “mathematical fiction” publicdomainreview.org/essay/a... #otd

I am no expert in the Scelba and Mancino laws, but I seriously doubt that anything in this doc. can be shown to a judge as "proof" of anything. And no doubt they'll have plenty of lawyers advising on this stuff. But the echoes are there, the choice of words and connotations absolutely unmistakable.

Autechre was excellent last night in Bologna. A significant improvement on the Bristol set from last year. Almost tempted to keep the Milan tickets and go again tonight but, sadly, that would mean another apartment and dog-sitter and lack of income = sacrifices...

not prominent, let's say! I'd somehow forgotten about electoral reform (being perhaps a little too focused on DDL 1552 atm), but isn't that set to favour the current coalition? Bit behind on that one... As for effectiveness in any potential government, suppose that's for another day... Thanks again!

How easy would it be to create a very large alliance in Italy bringing together radical left and M5S on the one hand and centrist parties on the other, so as to beat Meloni's right wing coalition? Answer: not very easy. /Thread/

Because, as everyone knows, protest works best when it's approved by the government. The entire judgement is based on a series of fairytales: about democracy, the benign nature of the state, the efficacy of polite, obedient and invisible protest and the harmonious course of English history.

Today is the second anniversary of Silvio Berlusconi's death & right-wing media in Italy are singing his praises & holding out about how he'd magically resolve all the world's problems if he were still alive & in power. Time to remind everyone of the murky & violent background of his rise to power.
