When I saw that my great-grandpa's brother Bryan built a long-term railroad accountancy career, I did wonder if that level of responsibility would take a heel turn and yep, it sure did.

March 29, 1930 headline titled "Two embezzlers given terms in federal jail" which describes two members of the Toledo Shore Line railroad who were sentenced to federal prison for two years. One of them is Bryan Thomas, my great grandfather's brother.

Before this, we just knew that grandpa had gone west at some point, pursuing work during the Depression. Looks now like he wanted to stay close to family by enlisting one state away from where his mom & dad were stationed. His dad went on to serve across WWI & WWII, quite a window of history.

Learned today that my grandpa enlisted at 17 (fudging his birth year) to follow his dad's career military footsteps, only for his mom to pass suddenly four months later. He was discharged after less than a year for debiliitating depression that prevented effective service, and geez do you think?
