We don’t refer to these people as vandals often, but large scale cultural vandalism is a core part of the Trump movement.

I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video.

Americans gave GW Bush and Trump 2 terms each, both wildly unpopular by the end. In the same time they gave 2 terms to Clinton and Obama, both very popular at the end, and 1 term to Biden who was unpopular for things that Trump is much worse on. Maybe some lessons here?

A report from the GAO found the Defense Department wasted millions on food never eaten and tents never lived in while assisting Homeland Security's rush last year to build migrant detention facilities in Texas and Guantanamo Bay. From Stars and Stripes' Rose L. Thayer:

Military wasted millions on efforts to help with ICE detention facilities, GAO says
Billions were spent purchasing warehouses, rushing contracts and trying to establish detention operations in locations that didn’t meet regulations.

The funniest thing about this is every Special Forces operator of the last generation — the exact kind of “warfighter” Hegseth purports to idolize — has the world’s most massive beard. That’s entirely the look of today’s supersoldiers.

So maybe no 9/11. No Iraq war. Etc, Etc, Etc. All elections matter but 2000 is the hinge point for the whole modern world. So if you ever think “I’m only one person, what difference can I make?” Nader is proof that one stubborn asshole can make all the difference.

It’s hard to imagine how different our country and the world would be if Gore had won in 2000. The environmental aspects alone could fill a book, but also a different Supreme Court, and guess who was the person in Clinton’s White House who was loudly warning about Osama Bin Laden? 1/2

Have to say, I appreciate them giving Reacher a Season 6 rather than “ending” the show and “bringing it back” with a new title like Reacher: Still Reaching, a “new” show that happens to have the same cast and continuity with the old show but doesn’t have to pay for the contractual bumps.

A key component of the Cambridge Analytica outrage was your friends subjecting you to data theft without your consent or knowledge. Facebook is running the same playbook on your text messages. Even if you’re not on Meta properties, they’re ingesting your interactions.
Aten installed Muse on both his iPhone and a Mac mini that he uses to test out various Al agents and tech. It took Meta a single day to begin "helpfully" pitching article ideas based on texts he'd sent to a podcast co-host.
When he asked Muse how it got the information, it said that it read banners from incoming texts. But that's not true, either.
After doing a little digging, Aten says Muse synced 187,000 lines from his Messages database, despite Full Disk Access being Off.Unless Aten is the most popular person on the face of the planet, I sincerely doubt he'd gotten 187,000 lines of text in roughly 24 hours. What happened is that, without permission, Muse went into the app and downloaded the information.
He had not given Muse permission to access Messages, and full disk access was not enabled. It just went ahead and uploaded those texts anyway.
Muse can take "unexpected actions" indeed.

I think we're having somewhat different conversations here. You are speaking to whether or not it will harm them commercially. Doomsday will be massive, it's not in question. I'm talking about the personal experience of some people, particularly through the lens of my kid and that it is isn't ideal.

Matthew Federman @matthewfederman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
I assume it'll get its own proper intro in Doomsday, but for an end of a movie tease which you want to land with an "oh shit!" for a lot of people it lands with a "huh..."

Matthew Federman @matthewfederman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Yeah, and my kid got the gist of it, but it's particularly off-putting because it has this extremely different visual style and a seemingly-nefarious animated clock who is the boss and it's a lot to take in all at once in a way most brushed-passed exposition isn't...

Also I don’t know how many people watched Loki but it seems pretty foundational now to everything after it, and if you didn’t see it all the TVA stuff must seem particularly insane.

I felt the same way. Wondering if when it goes to D+ if it’ll be this version or if they’ll keep the original, because if someone new watches them in order they’ll see a bunch of scenes at the end teasing a thing that doesn’t happen till like 10 movies later.

For decades Republicans have polled higher as strong on Defense and the Economy despite allowing 9/11, starting multiple wars on false pretenses and repeatedly crashing the economy. Don't know what it will take for Americans to finally see that. Trump isn't an outlier, he's the final evolution.

10/7 was Israel's 9/11 in more ways than one. Both leaders ignored intel that could've prevented the attack and effectively avoided blame through war. The Right always promises safety and security but they're historically terrible at providing it. www.theatlantic.com/national-sec...

Sci-fi writers of the past really blew it on how stupid this would all be. The realistic version of Skynet is it becomes self-aware but only understands human relationships through action movies it's absorbed so it sends Terminators thinking that's how we play.

After its successful, tech bros brag about how they faked their app/service to make it look like it did what they said, while it was a mechanical turk situation. The industry rewards the best liars and sociopaths. If she wasn't a woman and it wasn't a medical device, Holmes would have been fine.

This, and also very little discussion about how Silicon Valley venture capital almost demands that founders lie in order to raise the money to build the thing they say they have, and how many successful companies started the same way. The medical aspect makes Theranos worse but not different.

Speaking as someone who wrote a book on the government’s Doomsday plans, one challenge: “Martial law” isn’t actually something that exists in the US in the way it exists in other countries. There are ways to nationalize or deploy troops, but “declaring martial law” isn’t some magic button to press.
