You really get the scale & breadth of the grid expansion As I read, I'm reminded how little emphasis politicians put on national security when discussing grid upgrades. We hear of energy security but less so national security In such a polarised world, this would help legitimise the grid overhaul

Does extreme heat & the climate adaptation agenda begin to drive a new insulation drive (and maybe reversible heat pumps too) in homes that need both heating and cooling? Lord knows climate mitigation wasn't enough on its own to push this at scale, nationwide; in the UK at least.

It's amazing how AI is creeping in to every day teaching/research/policy/consultancy tasks at uni now. If we lean on these tools hard enough, we'll forget how to do many of things that make a university education truly worthwhile like synthesizing, interpreting, critical thinking etc.

The devastation takes your breath away. It's tragic. And what's so sad, is that this kind of event will only become more common with climate change. The threats of #climatechange are no longer theoretical or abstract, they're plastered across the news and are costing lives week-in-week-out.

Quite excited about what an Environment Minister like @angelaeagle1.bsky.social, who clearly 'gets it', could potentially achieve during their tenure. Society and our economy both depend upon a healthy, and fully functioning environment. Reform and the Convervatives would do well to remember that.

Wow. This is excellent news on a number of fronts, not just carbon (energy access, air quality). China's supply of this fast growing market, is another major missed opportunity for countries like the US, who seem unable to fathom the scale of the export potential here.

Watching and waiting for the right and hard-right to claim the term 'climate adaptation' and to weaponise this against 'climate mitigation', as a reason to put less effort into it. Every sensible soul knows we need both, and one without the other constitutes a very weak climate strategy indeed.

It may be a function of when (and to a lesser extent how) excess deaths from heat are recorded in the UK but why is this not front page news? Why are we not hearing more about people losing loved ones to climate change, in the UK? There seems a log jam on this kind of news & it needs to be heard.

I was on BBC Business Today yesterday on what's happened and what's coming for UK food. 34 million litres less milk this June. Around 60 million pints. Wheat is down 13%. Wholesale potato prices +40%, lettuce +90% We covered a Great Food Transformation: diet, waste, production, communities.

Eyes on whether Burnham sticks to Clean Power 2030. The more I think on the next few years leading up to the next election, the more I consider Labour's push on electrification to be critical. If done right, it will already be in train & won't even be up for debate, regardless of who is in power
