I would check out RE 2 remake and RE 7 to start. Each are top-tier games and require no knowledge of the others, and they each represent the two main types of RE games (third vs first person).

All good points. I play a lot of indie and smaller titles that never get physical releases anyway, so of the games I buy physical is probably only an option 10% of the time anyway, so I just decided for myself I’d rather have my entire library digital for convenience.

This is why I mostly switched to digital games despite otherwise buying physical media. Unlike a book or a movie, a game on a disc is rarely the full or best version of the product. If I have to download portions of it and future patches, just having it on a disc feels less future-proof anyway.

Another reason they won’t do that is I think last I checked Switch cartridges cost around $15 to produce vs. $1-2 for discs. I believe this is one of the reasons N64 games often cost $80-90 when PS1 games were $40-50

And if that’s not already baked into the hardware, second best option would be the disc to digital method that Xbox is rumored to be working on. If they aren’t already, having this feature on Xbox might force their hand to develop something similar which could be added any time via firmware.

Simplest option would be just to have a slot on the console that’s compatible with the PS5 drive. People with physical PS4/5 libraries are already livid, so giving no option to play those games on 6 seems like it will only further hurt what’s undoubtedly going to be an already slow adoption rate.
