Virago's designs have been hit and miss over the years but I really like these new Modern Classics editions

Virago paperbacks of The Tortoise and the Hare by Elizabeth Jenkins and One Fine Day by Mollie Panter-Downes. The covers have a solid strip of colour on the left hand side with the author name and title. The remaining two thirds is given over to a painting (of two women and a rural scene respectively) which partially overlaps the coloured strip.

On her first record in seven years (& first since her extraordinary memoir), Neko Case finally gives us an album full of love songs, complete with strings - on loves platonic, familial, artistic, even the romantic kind, but especially of love for music and musicians. slate.com/culture/2025...

Why did Virago switched from its bold signature cover/spine typography (left) to its timid style (right) in which the name of this landmark series is meekly whispered as it drowns in a sea of green?

Incredible. Roland Reisley is 101 years old, the last original client of Frank Lloyd Wright. He still lives in the 3,200 square foot home that Wright built for him in 1952. The price? $40,000. Or a little less than half a million in today's money.

A man standing on what appears to be a balcony of his home.

The man's living room. There's a couch, coffee table, and foot stool, as well as some tall windows. Lots of wood.

Another living space with a fireplace and bookshelf. Possibly a compression hallway leading to this room.
