iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I don't think so. One takeaway I've picked up over the last year re: PCSA is that the current "athlete's rights" organizations are politically quite weak, which is a reflection of where current athlete organization is. I'm not saying I want it to be that way, I'm just saying how it is NOW.

Marc is 100% right about this. It's one of (several IMO) good reasons to oppose the PCSA.

yes im going to foia the dog's contract, who the hell do you think I am, cmon

was doing some FOIA work this afternoon and came across this very good dog on the Northwestern State staff directory:

a great read, and not just because I'm quoted in it

Emails? No, I think I've gotten maybe two of those in the last six years. But I do have a bluesky account, so I sometimes get unhinged responses from people with cartoon avatars.

I am trying to be nicer (mostly failing)

okay last thing before I gotta do more actual work today this was an aol email address. he seems to have found our publication via Facebook.

41240

he wrote back after I told him I'd happily unsubscribe him

I guess? It would be a pretty funny long con by me, I have to admit.

I am the Steve and Barry's of sportswriters, everybody is always saying this

1500

jokes on him! my real name is Matthew! wait. fuck.

1190

Yeah, this is a funny dynamic I suspect my readership is more conservative than the majority of "bluesky newsletter writers", just by virtue of the industry I cover, but I'm in the business of writing words for people to read. Dudes who think like this guy are.. not half of that audience lol

Who’d benefit most from the PCSA as written? Who'd lose?

Who knows if the PCSA becomes an actual law as currently written. I wrote about what groups would particularly benefit if the bill becomes law, and who gets the short end of the stick: (it isn't just high-earning athletes!) www.extrapointsmb.com/p/who-d-bene...

extrapointsmb.com

Let's set aside whether the bill will become law or if, on balance, it's a good thing. Who would benefit the most?

Anyway I will say one nice thing about Utah and also one mean thing about BYU, should he like.

Thanks so much to @cam-utah.bsky.social for this thoughtful gift. I can’t wait to read it, ponder it, and then (probably) not apply it to my life and wonder why nothing is improving

was I depressed or did I just need to play one of the Ichiban Yakuza games for a little while and soak up his positivity

1180

I mean, that WOULD be a good use of my sponsorship budget,,,

of course! having connections in the sports equipment world is not normally something that helps folks in their regular lives, but baseball is cool and if I can figure out a way to help more folks find community and play baseball, I'm gonna try to do it. good luck!!!

US-Based Equipment Grant Application

BUT, beyond me trying to call in some favors at Wilson or BSN, maybe this could be a fit? pifbs.org/for-applican...

This form is for general equipment grant requests and disaster relief projects.

lemme think about this for a day, I might have some people for you to call?

Yeah, our lists are around the same size, and I don't consider us very good at selling ad, and we've earned more in *one campaign* than they did over a year. That feels like more than just underpricing. There's an opportunity there for a good outbound salesperson. They should be earning more!

Now, should Kansas State have ever agreed to Tang's extension, or fired him when and how they did? Uh, with the benefit of hindsight...probably not!

K-State to borrow money for Tang buyout

This story, from Kansas State, is a good reminder that athletic departments aren't typically carrying bank balances of ten million bucks over the course of the year. Cash flow is a bigger problem than I originally thought re: buyouts and bonuses: 1350kman.com/2026/10/k-st...

University of Tennessee President Tours Rural Colleges

this seems like a good idea I do think the UT system has done a really good job, as far as red-state university systems go, in SELLING higher education and preaching the value of the institution to the entire state. You gotta sell this stuff! www.insidehighered.com/news/admissi...
