I passed my viva yesterday morning in #Geography and Planning at the @liverpooluni.bsky.social @geodatascience.bsky.social It still feels so surreal. I am so happy, but it has been such a long and complex process. I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of my #PhD journey.

I am attempting to understand how my case left the UK at 20.3kg and since, nothing additional has been added to it and weighed 20.4kg at the hotel, 22.7kg on one of the scales in the airport, and now 24.9kg at the bag drop. Do they calibrate?

I tried sleeping for much longer during the flights but my body couldn't adjust, especially with too many distractions. Envious of people who can board a plane and fall asleep before pushback. Air New Zealand's #skycouch and #skynest would have been nice. But I flew Cathay... (No choice really 🤭).

It is currently 17:20 NZST and my body still thinks it is 06:20 GMT. I travelled for 45 hours from my home in the UK to the hotel in NZ, sleeping for only 3 hours. Caught up on sleep last night, but tiredness is starting to creep up again. Hopefully I am refreshed for the poster session. #phdlife

Tested #DeepSeek #AGI by asking it to comment out a specific line of code in the correct position. It took 408 seconds to break the #R script instead. #ChatGPT has repeatedly commented the line below and sends the same response each time. AI / AGI be crazy. I guess I will just press Ctrl Shift C.

#Throwback to my #youth. Young Matt always wanted to be a #police constable. I tried that, passed the entire process, and lost the opportunity due to UK budgeting. However, I found my true calling in #ecology, #spatial science, and teaching. Younger Matt would be so proud of my achievements.

My mother found my Year 1 primary school report, and it is clear I have not changed with #Science and #Geography. Even back then, I knew I would become an ecologist in a geographer's world. The issue arose because they wanted to install a gate in our shared alleyway. Instead of approaching us to request the contact details of our landlord or landlady, they chose to use the land registry. What makes this situation particularly odd is that I greeted them just two days ago as I walked by.

I have started #writing backwards for my #PhD papers, and I have noticed a clear improvement in my sentence structure, grammar, and flow. I never thought about starting with the #conclusion, but now that I have, I am not going back — only backwards! I highly recommend doi.org/10.1007/s429.... 🧪

I never went to the hospital via ambulance, they had a 2.5 hour wait time to arrive for me. I cancelled with them to free this for someone life threatening (I was deemed non-life threatening). Instead I was referred through to a GP (A&E was hectic too) and I have no idea what was wrong with me.

Another burst of thunder snow across #Wirral, reported from CH49. Snow remains settled from the previous night with freezing conditions. Icy pathways. Interestingly, weather has triggered the growth of my #daffodils, planted two years ago. No sign of snow falling, settled snow 2/10. #uksnow
