Millions of homes are at risk of subsidence because of the worsening climate crisis, the British Geological Survey has warned. Under its worst-case scenario, 11% of UK homes could be at risk of subsidence by 2070, more than 4.2 million houses.

As hotter, drier summers and warmer, wetter winters become more frequent, the ground under houses can shrink and drag down a property’s foundations. Older properties with shallow foundations are more at risk, and those built on clay-rich soils. The most vulnerable areas include London, Essex, Kent and a tranche of land from Oxford up to the Wash on England’s east coast, according to scientists.

From 28 August 2026, HM Land Registry will provide Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and INSPIRE IDs in separate lookup tables alongside the monthly Price Paid dataset.

This responds to customer demand for UPRNs and INSPIRE IDs to be included alongside Price Paid Data, making it easier to connect sale price information with other property and location datasets.

Price Paid Data includes information about residential property sales in England and Wales. It is used by property professionals, researchers, public bodies, lenders, digital service providers and others who need reliable property market information.

The Historic Woodlands 1891-1914 (AI predicted) dataset for England shows land where woodland was mapped between approximately 1891 and 1914. The dataset has been generated using an artificial intelligence (AI) model applied to historic 2nd edition Ordnance Survey (OS) maps and provides an indication of the extent and type of historic woodland.

The dataset is intended to support the development of forestry projects, analysis, interpretation and decision making by providing an indication of where historic woodland was mapped. It can help inform strategy, planning and research. To use this data appropriately, it may be necessary to apply additional quality assurance, filtering or validation processes.

Historic OS map tiles were processed and analysed using an image segmentation model trained to recognise woodland symbols and patterns initially within Wales. The model was trained using manually labelled historic OS map data and designed to detect different types of woodland based on their cartographic representation.

Access to the historic mapping used in this dataset was provided by the National Library of Scotland. The dataset was developed in partnership between the Welsh Government Data Science Unit and the Forestry Commission. The AI predictions were subject to post processing to create a consistent, usable national dataset for England published under an Open Government Licence.

● sharing insights and concepts: what the market needs and how OS and HM Land Registry can best fulfil their public tasks to drive economic growth
● leveraging opportunities for data distribution including making best use of OS's DataHub to provide HM Land Registry data to market
● exchanging knowledge, skills and best practice in areas of shared interest such as licensing, geospatial, compliance; helping to create a consistent public sector standard for commercial models and reuse of data

Merged LiDAR based Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and Digital Surface Model (DSM) for England and Wales doi.org/10.5285/3444... from the Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC) based on EA and NRW data #geospatial #opendata

This high resolution (1m) spatial dataset provides elevation and terrain information for England and Wales. It includes a digital terrain model (DTM) and a digital surface model (DSM), created by merging LiDAR-based, 1m DTMs and DSMs published by the Environmental Agency in 2023 (England) and Natural Resources Wales in 2024 (Wales). These source data are originally distributed as many small, region‑specific files; this dataset consolidates them into unified, seamless DTM and DSM products for the whole of England and Wales.

The DTM represents the bare‑earth elevation, while the DSM captures elevations that include surface features such as buildings and vegetation. The DSM and DTM files are large (>250GB). To support efficient use and analysis, links to Python scripts and Jupyter notebooks are provided for subsetting the data to catchments and for performing terrain, hydrological, and canopy analysis https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.21297014

Dear Customer,
Further to our 16 February 2026 announcement regarding inconsistencies in Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) assignment in the National Statistical UPRN Lookup (NSUL) and ONS UPRN Directory (ONSUD), please see the following update:
The issue dates back to 2022 and has resulted in the misallocation of UPRNs added after the introduction of an error to the production process.
We are updating the methodology and will be publishing the next Epoch (E128) in September based on this corrected process. To assist with our ongoing commitment to transparency, we will also be publishing our validation process via ONS Digital.
Please note that we will not be publishing a back series, nor making retrospective corrections to the errors present in previous ONSUD releases.
For ONSUD E121, the estimated level of misallocation at statistical geographies is:
• 2.1% at Output Area
• 1.03% at Lower layer Super Output Area
• 0.48% at Middle layer Super Output Area
• 10.16% at Local Authority District
We are also aware of associated error at other levels of administrative geography.

This file contains the National Statistics UPRN Lookup (NSUL) for Great Britain as at June 2026. The NSUL relates the Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) for each GB address from AddressBase® Epoch 127 to a range of current statutory administrative, electoral, health and other statistical geographies via 'best-fit' allocation from 2021 Census output areas (National Parks and Workplace Zones are exempt from 'best-fit' and use 'exact-fit' allocations). The NSUL is produced by ONS Geography, who provide geographic support to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and geographic services used by other organisations. The NSUL is issued every 6 weeks and is designed to complement the Ordnance Survey AddressBase® product. For further technical information about this file, please refer to the User Guide document contained within the downloadable zip file.
