A great day in Falmouth giving a guest lecture on our work in Nepal to undergraduates, postgraduates and staff in the Earth and Environmental Science department.

I was chuffed to be asked to do the lab work for this study during my postdoc. Being published with Neil, who taught me during undergrad in Aberystwyth, is a dream come true! It was also super cool to work with @eisstrom.bsky.social, @matt-peacey.bsky.social, and many co-authors not on Bluesky!

A photo looking up a valley towards Taullicocha Glacier in Peru. There are prominent cross-valley moraines which we date using cosmogenic 10Be in the paper linked in the previous post.

A close up photo of small pieces of granitic rock that were collected from the surface of a boulder on the crest of a moraine in Peru. Quartz was isolated from these rocks for 10Be surface exposure dating.

A busy couple of weeks for the Losing their Cool team - we've drilled, cored, installed thermistors & erected an AWS, all at 6500m beneath the Lhotse Face. Next challenge is to get a flight out of Lukla 😄 @matt-peacey.bsky.social @climatom.bsky.social @unileedsnews.bsky.social @envleeds.bsky.social

Back in Lukla waiting for flights tomorrow, feeling incredibly grateful for how things went over the last 2 weeks, climbing the icefall, doing our work, and most importantly, making it back down safe. @duncanquincey.bsky.social @climatom.bsky.social

What an amazing experience, we were very fortunate to make it too and from camp II via the icefall safely and complete our work in the western Cwm on the 6th. Absolutely exhausted but excited to share some more photos from the trip soon. @duncanquincey.bsky.social @climatom.bsky.social

Settling in at basecamp nicely with some equipment tests going on. Unfortunately, the WiFi is mega expensive, so I won't be contactable until I return from the western Cwm and head down valley. Fingers crossed it all goes well the next few weeks. @duncanquincey.bsky.social @annvrowan.bsky.social

Today we made up to @sevensummittreks basecamp to begin testing our equipment. Unfortunately it's been delayed due to bad weather in lukla but as of tomorrow we will be based there full time. @duncanquincey.bsky.social @annvrowan.bsky.social

The LtC team is at Gorak Shep, just a short walk from Everest Base Camp. Our equipment is somewhere between Kathmandu and here... hoping for a safe delivery by heli sometime in the next few days. @envleeds.bsky.social @matt-peacey.bsky.social @annvrowan.bsky.social @unileedsnews.bsky.social

Been a mixed couple of days here in Nepal. Some stunning weather but the trekking is getting harder. We are now one day from Everest basecamp and starting our work proper. Following that its up to the western Cwm to start drilling @duncanquincey.bsky.social @annvrowan.bsky.social

Days 5 and 6 of Losing their Cool and we've arrived at Dingboche, sat beneath Ama Dablam. We've been sampling more streams for Hi-RISE, acclimatising, and admiring the incredible views @annvrowan.bsky.social @matt-peacey.bsky.social @envleeds.bsky.social

It's not every day you wake up to a view of Nuptse, Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Nice to have a rest day at Dingboche today, as I am starting to really feel the altitude. Tomorrow, we press on, soon getting over 5000 meters above sea level. @annvrowan.bsky.social @duncanquincey.bsky.social

800kg of repacking later and we are ready to fly to lukla tomorrow. Fingers crossed we get good weather and can get out to the field to start making our way towards Everest. @aberuni.bsky.social
