This kind of censorship should be opt-in as a feature of each user's client, not enforced server-side by the platform. The potential for abuse by authoritarian government way outstrips the potential to help fight terrorism.

This sounds like the sort of target you'd chose if you wanted to expose the FBI for corrupt hiring practices. I suspect the hackers are the good guys in this story.

Remember Descent? You were zooming around blowing up asteroid mines by sabotaging the reactor. Was this game about a labor uprising? Was I an astroluddite?
A screenshot from Descent, "new game" is selected, among other menu options.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

One day, our browsers will catch up, and will not bother even rendering untrusted content. If we're lucky, we'll be in control of what counts as untrusted in that scenario.

I'm not super in the know about who's who in the Linux community, but I've heard of DHH. Is there anybody 1Password could've funded that would've caused more of a backlash? If not, then I assume that the backlash is the point, and DHH's particular objectionable view is just fuel.

There's a lot of disagreement out there over whether LLM code is useful. I notice that this article's critiques are mainly anchored in a SaaS world. Towards the end he concedes that LLMs are great for "personal software" (a growing category).

I wish we didn't call it AI. The intelligence came from humans, it's authentic intelligence, just remixed. RI would've been better because everybody understands that a remix culture that doesn't celebrate and support its inputs is doomed to be a temporary one.

The whole "be your own bank" idea only made sense in a world where crypto was continually working to decentralize power, working to spread itself out. Most of these coins got distracted by greed and stopped doing that job. Now they're gonna get robbed like the banks they failed to replace.

Should it matter what HuggingFace thinks? These would be criminal charges wouldn't they? I mean, if I fire a gun in public and the bullet breaks your window, maybe you can decline to press charges about the window, but the original crime of illegal discharge remains.

I'd like to commission a matrix mantis for my profile picture so that I can criticize AI without the hypocrisy of doing so with an AI generated profile picture. Budget: $40 Is that the kind of think you can just go around and ask people to do? I don't know how art works but I want to support it.

There's a lot of artistry that can go into the clever application of mathematics and algorithms. And there's a lot of potential to use AI as a medium for artistic expression. Remix and cover as homage is respectable. And that's all totally different than just having the AI do the art for you.

Velveeta isn't cheese, which always makes finding it in a new grocery store a bit of an Orwellian exercise. Don't ask what it is, the answer would do you damage, but categorize it well enough to find it nonetheless. Its a very American experience.
