Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 30/09/2026In #mathstoday I enjoyed eavesdropping into lots of ‘tell your partner’ moments. I love hearing what students know without them having to speak so publicly. 030
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Looking forward to trying out this starter in preparation for reverse grid factorising for the rest of the lesson using the AC/split the middle method. #mathstoday (but actually tomorrow) 071
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Amazing. Nabbed for my lesson on Wednesday. Thank you 000
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 24/09/2026In #mathstoday my y11s did their weekly 15 min test, I marked them in my free, and then enjoyed giving feedback on my yard duty. They love the immediacy and frequency of results. I’ve been really pleased with how the system has been working from a motivation perspective. 010
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 21/09/2026In #mathstoday did revision of para and perp lines with y11 in prep for eqn of tangent to circle. I asked one of those terrible ‘guess what’s in my head questions?’ - ‘remember any geom. situations we met in y10 of perp lines?, and was delighted to get an unexpected answer of ‘opp and adj’. 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Also in #mathstoday, gave my year 11s a motivational mini assessment - hoping tracking scores each week might help with motivation, and scores were massively improved from last week. Woop woop! 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 17/09/2026In #mathstoday with year 10 - rearranging formulae and getting excited about how to make the subject go from two places to one! What joy! 010
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Thanks so much! Looks like I can’t direct message you though? 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Ah excellent! (But I must admit I did use the word ‘undefined’!) I promise I won’t again. Thank you! 110
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I thought I might get a response like this! So my explanation was not mathematically valid? 110
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 16/09/2026This may sound ridiculous but until this year I’d always explained that via cos(pi/2), and this year is the first year that instead I referred to 0 and undefined being reciprocals of one another, which felt so beautifully easy. 200
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Saving this resource for the next time I do this. Looks fantastic. Thanks Jenny! 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 09/07/2026How does everyone motivate year 11s who are capable of 7s but settle for 5s? 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 09/07/2026This has made me laugh, but begs the question…how big are the fish? 210
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 30/03/2026Oh yes!!! Brilliant, thanks! I played it years ago, but totally forgot it existed! 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 19/02/2026@mathspadnicola.bsky.social @mathspadjames.bsky.social nailing it again. I requested an addition to their website and a few days later, there it is. Incredible. 1112
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 04/01/2026Did you write this after making some scales which go wonky coding? 🫣 120
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 11/12/2025Very nice! Now that’s done you’ll be moving on to those wonky scales!! 010
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 07/12/2025Delighted to see 1 included in my favourite probability lesson. 120
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 07/12/2025I’m fairly sure that when I learnt these myself as a child I had no idea what ‘alternate segment’ meant, nor the relevance of chords in any of the theorems. I just memorised images I think. Understanding the language makes it so much easier! 140
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 06/12/2025With pleasure…I’ll set monthly/weekly/daily/hourly(?!) reminders. 😂 110
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 05/12/2025Given your remarkable skills……Any chance you can create weighing scales which algebra tiles can be placed on (which go wonky) when you haven’t done the same thing to both sides?! Pretty please? 120
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 01/12/2025In #mathstoday year 7 began converting recurring decimals to fractions by piecing together and manipulating 9ths, 99ths and 999ths. Such great fun! 040
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Finding these videos useful and inspiring: www.ncetm.org.uk/maths-hubs-p.... Teaching maths really well often feels really hard. I’m guilty of resorting to ‘easy (less good) teaching’ but the video about full sentences is a useful reminder of simple deliberate practice that is highly effective.ncetm.org.ukSecondary Mastery Specialist ProgrammeInformation about the Secondary Mastery Specialists Programme 031
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 28/11/2025Yep mine too. Everything is just so beautifully crafted with understanding mathematics properly at its heart. But also, it’s clearly created by teachers so the tasks work brilliantly in a classroom of 30 real humans. 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 28/11/2025This is totally bonkers. A friend today was telling me that she’s got it making up questions similar to ones y13 got wrong on their mock, which also sounded bonkers. All bonkers but also exciting. 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 27/11/2025Not answering your question but reminds me of the wonderful more same less task that. www.more-same-less.co.uk/2024/08/on-t... 381
Reposted by LauraMiss Morris @morrismaths359.bsky.social · 25/11/2025#Mathstoday Year 8 finished their section on simplifying expressions ending with adding x^2 types to the mix. They also got to do some finding expressions of perimeter questions. 2125
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 24/11/2025In #mathstoday I enjoyed solving this problem posed by a colleague. 5184
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 24/11/2025I was wondering about this recently and my colleague drew on this rectangle which convinced me my assumption was right. 110
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 23/11/2025Great task after great task after great task! What a superb reminder many of the gems that exist! 000
Reposted by LauraNathan Day @nathanday.bsky.social · 08/07/2025Calling all Maths teachers! What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths? Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks... ... or just ones you really like. Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 21/11/2025What a great resource! Keen to find more algebra tile resources if anyone knows of any. www.purposefulmaths.com has been great!purposefulmaths.comHome | Purposeful Maths 010
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 21/11/2025This looks wonderful. Is it a resource you made yourself or could I find similar work on a website somewhere? I’m keen to find more algebra tile resources but haven’t come across many yet. TIA. 110
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 20/11/2025Two lessons down and the tile having a negative value hasn’t been a problem so far. I’m enjoying it! 000
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 19/11/2025The challenge with this was using equations with integer solutions which weren’t immediately obvious just looking at the equation. Didn’t want 3x+1=7 for example. So ended up using lots of pretty challenging equations with unknown on both sides and negative solutions. 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 19/11/2025In #mathstoday I braved using algebra tiles to solve equations. Not sure of success, but looking forward to watching students playing around with more equations tmrw. 151
