Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 30/09/2026In #mathstoday I enjoyed eavesdropping into lots of ‘tell your partner’ moments. I love hearing what students know without them having to speak so publicly. 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Looking forward to trying out this starter in preparation for reverse grid factorising for the rest of the lesson using the AC/split the middle method. #mathstoday (but actually tomorrow) 061
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 24/09/2026In #mathstoday my y11s did their weekly 15 min test, I marked them in my free, and then enjoyed giving feedback on my yard duty. They love the immediacy and frequency of results. I’ve been really pleased with how the system has been working from a motivation perspective. 010
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 21/09/2026In #mathstoday did revision of para and perp lines with y11 in prep for eqn of tangent to circle. I asked one of those terrible ‘guess what’s in my head questions?’ - ‘remember any geom. situations we met in y10 of perp lines?, and was delighted to get an unexpected answer of ‘opp and adj’. 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Also in #mathstoday, gave my year 11s a motivational mini assessment - hoping tracking scores each week might help with motivation, and scores were massively improved from last week. Woop woop! 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 17/09/2026In #mathstoday with year 10 - rearranging formulae and getting excited about how to make the subject go from two places to one! What joy! 010
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Saving this resource for the next time I do this. Looks fantastic. Thanks Jenny! 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 09/07/2026How does everyone motivate year 11s who are capable of 7s but settle for 5s? 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 19/02/2026@mathspadnicola.bsky.social @mathspadjames.bsky.social nailing it again. I requested an addition to their website and a few days later, there it is. Incredible. 1112
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 07/12/2025Delighted to see 1 included in my favourite probability lesson. 120
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 07/12/2025I’m fairly sure that when I learnt these myself as a child I had no idea what ‘alternate segment’ meant, nor the relevance of chords in any of the theorems. I just memorised images I think. Understanding the language makes it so much easier! 140
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 01/12/2025In #mathstoday year 7 began converting recurring decimals to fractions by piecing together and manipulating 9ths, 99ths and 999ths. Such great fun! 040
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 01/12/2025Finding these videos useful and inspiring: www.ncetm.org.uk/maths-hubs-p.... Teaching maths really well often feels really hard. I’m guilty of resorting to ‘easy (less good) teaching’ but the video about full sentences is a useful reminder of simple deliberate practice that is highly effective.ncetm.org.ukSecondary Mastery Specialist ProgrammeInformation about the Secondary Mastery Specialists Programme 031
Reposted by LauraMiss Morris @morrismaths359.bsky.social · 25/11/2025#Mathstoday Year 8 finished their section on simplifying expressions ending with adding x^2 types to the mix. They also got to do some finding expressions of perimeter questions. 2125
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 24/11/2025In #mathstoday I enjoyed solving this problem posed by a colleague. 5184
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 23/11/2025Great task after great task after great task! What a superb reminder many of the gems that exist! 000
Reposted by LauraNathan Day @nathanday.bsky.social · 08/07/2025Calling all Maths teachers! What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths? Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks... ... or just ones you really like. Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 19/11/2025In #mathstoday I braved using algebra tiles to solve equations. Not sure of success, but looking forward to watching students playing around with more equations tmrw. 151

Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 17/10/2025@tlmaths.bsky.social I’ve been trying to use your videos for the last couple of weeks and keep encountering this message. Is your website not currently available? It happens when I’m trying to access further integration on both chrome and safari. TIA. 100
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 04/09/2025I hate to sound like a broken record but I LOVE @mathspadnicola.bsky.social @mathspadjames.bsky.social!!! Mathspad makes children of all abilities THINK HARD. 011
Reposted by Laura1st Class Maths @1stclassmaths.bsky.social · 03/09/2025Did you know I've been working on A-level content? I've managed to cover all of year 1 statistics now including in depth videos (a little over 6 hours worth), exam questions and solutions on each topic (117 full exam questions in total). All free, of course. www.1stclassmaths.com/alevelrevision 86022
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 28/11/2024#mathstoday (But actually in a few weeks…) Best Christmathsy activities? I always enjoy a bit of curve stitching Christmas trees, but would love to hear what others get up to! 230
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 02/10/2024@catrionaagg.bsky.social teaching unknown mu and/or sigma today was brilliant. No procedural standardising at all. Just finding how many sigmas from the mean we are and then working from there. It all felt so much more intuitive than how I’ve done it previously. Thanks for all your help on this. 270
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 28/09/2024Notation help please. When approximating binomial with normal, should I be using a different letter? See image. Are both ok? Neither? Something else? @susanwhitehouse.bsky.social @mrsouthernmaths.bsky.social @tlmaths.bsky.social @danihosford.bsky.social 421
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 25/09/2024#mathstoday My exceptionally mathematically brilliant year 11s were wowed by the realisation that you could divide across numerators and denominators when dividing fractions. 152
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 24/09/2024#mathstoday I posed the diagonally cornerless chessboard problem (can a domino cover every square?) in 1st lesson on proof. Student tried to draw over the whole board, whilst we watched him fail, no one sure if it could be done or not. Then someone came up with beautiful proof which convinced us. 152
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 21/09/2024Anyone tried teaching normal dist without any mention if standardising until unknown mu and sigma occur? Having read @susanwhitehouse.bsky.social and @mrsouthernmaths.bsky.social book, I know their view is it’s a bad idea (so it probably is!), but I’m really tempted to try it.catrionaagg.bsky.socialCatriona Agg (@catrionaagg.bsky.social) 1111
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 10/09/2024I have a y9 student who has recently lost his sight. He cannot see anything on paper or a screen. He has the support of an LSA, and specialist training is due to take place asap. If you have experience of this, any advice on teaching maths to blind students would be much appreciated. 544
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 06/09/2024@mathspadnicola.bsky.social @mathspadjames.bsky.social I’ve missed mathspad over the summer. The use of colours on the digits and the blocks is wonderful. Are the blues equal? Yellows? Bringing decimals to life. 020
Laura @mathsteacher09.bsky.social · 03/09/2024Any suggestions for good ice breaker games to help me learn names of year 8 tutor group tomorrow? TIA 010
