"The Duke's Decision" got pirated on Google Play, scraped off Royal Road. Irksome. If you put something out there where people can read it for free, other people will steal it to try to make money off of it.

When Harris picked Walz as a running mate, I thought it was a normal-tier choice. At this point, I think it marked a huge failure in vetting by Democrats, and that Republicans dropped the ball in oppo research.

Jay Jones wanted violence inflicted on a political opponent (and also said opponent's chlidren). His texts make that extremely clear. That is not acceptable in a position of power and trust. And that's true whether or not he wanted it public, his skin color, or any "but Trump!" statement.

The legal strategy that annoys me the most when it comes to election reform (and it works a lot) is playing clock shenanigans. It should never be too early or too late to hold the state accountable for conducting elections properly.

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
That is inferred subtext out of her head. It is factually not what was said, which makes putting the words in his mouth malpractice by both academic and journalistic standards.

No, this is Attiah’s hill. She decided to double down on her misquotation and use it as the centerpiece of her appeal for public support.

When you say “Black women X,” it becomes a categorical statement about all black women, as opposed to a statement about a narrower set of four specific black women.

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 17/09/2025
“These specific four women are stupid” isn’t a statement about a racial class. Which is why the misquote was treated as outrageous by Kirk’s fans.

(3) The left has a growing problem with the illiberal endorsement of political violence. The people who are celebrating the assassination have no place in a party or political organization that contributes to the functioning of a liberal democracy. Kick them out.

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 13/09/2025
(2) It is not pragmatic good politics. It removes a piece from the board; it also changes the rules of play. The backlash will be substantial.

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 13/09/2025
(1) This is political violence targeting speech. "We shoot the talky guy" is pure anathema to the principles of functional liberal democracy.

I don't think I will write an article on the Charlie Kirk assassination. I may write one more broadly on political violence. I deeply disapprove of this development. This is abhorrent and morally indefensible.

Trump has deported 200,000 immigrants in his first six months in office. At current rates, he will deport 1.6 million immigrants in his term. Even considering the rather large ICE budget increase, it's unlikely Trump can finish the project of deporting illegal immigrants.

One thing I love about having made the switch to a Leaf - no oil in an electric. I had to watch my old car’s levels all the time, sometimes it would burn oil.

We already went through the "affirmative action cheating" cycle with Elizabeth Warren. She still got elected in her safely Democratic constituency, but by a notably smaller margin, and head-to-head polls suggested that she would manage to lose the popular vote to Donald Trump nationally.

I know Red Team & Blue Team are both focused on KBJ’s fiery dissent, but it’s a dissent that neither Kagan nor Sotomayor were willing to endorse. Sotomayor’s opinion is the one endorsed by all three liberal justices.

Bob Menendez was much further along the “this guy will get convicted of something” track before getting thrown under the bus. Senators can and have gotten away with a lot, this was a conjunction of peak national “MeToo” energy, optics, and Minnesota being considered “safe enough” politically.

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 28/06/2025
It was eight, with the first two failing the sniff test, none coming forward independently, and nothing that could (or did) support a successful lawsuit or criminal charges. Mostly came down to “there was a bad-looking photo” and “enough D senators decided to ditch him.”

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 28/06/2025
Neither Kagan nor Sotomayor cosigned KBJ's additional dissent, though all three liberal justices agreed with the narrower and stronger argument in Sotomayor's dissent. Law does need to be considered abstractly to be consistent, and it must be consistent in order to be sustainable in the long term.

This article is unpopular to the point of ragebait in the blue bubble here on BlueSky. But it's correct. Allowing any one of hundreds of federal judges to issue a decision immediately binding on the entire nation was unsustainable.

I think that is an unwarranted level of panic. The constitutional order has been threatened and is not in its healthiest state, but it is by no means dead.

Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 28/06/2025
SCOTUS put a 30-day stay on the order for now. I think they will probably stay it for longer if necessary. If they wait longer before deciding against the administration (as everyone seems to think likely), then it will almost certainly be retroactive (but be a bit of an administrative headache).
010
Tomas McIntee @mathintee.bsky.social · 27/06/2025
I will be very surprised if SCOTUS actually rules against birthright citizenship. They just slapped down district courts issuing national injunctions. They haven’t ruled on the merits yet.

Dworkin was just full of hate. There’s no irony there, just deep failure to appreciate base rates. Men are the biggest extant danger to women because men have proven very effective at eliminating other dangers to women. Being a human woman in a first world society is one of the safest existences.

At the end of the day, the NYC mayor can still get jerked around by the NY governor and legislature. It’s not a “the buck stops here” kind of job. To be totally fair, though, small-state governors don’t make it in very often either (Bill Clinton, Franklin Pierce).

No, you can't. Minnesota doesn't record party affiliation for voters. They do not disclose which primary ballot you select, either, with an exception of presidential primary request lists being sent to party chairs. (There was no presidential primary in 2022, FWIW.)

You posted this several times, but it's substantially misinformative. He's married with kids (not an incel) and Minnesota does not register voters by party. The state board he worked on listed him as having no party preference, he has been cited as voting for Trump.

There was a whole subgenre of early Star Wars EU fiction that was like this. "Hey, what about [BACKGROUND PERSON/THING] we saw once for five seconds in the movie? What's their version of the story?" Some of it was pretty great, some pretty silly. The Boba Fett part really took off, though.
