Can someone on Bluesky reassure me that I'm not the only person who can't see a bottle of sweet chilli sauce without breaking into Guns n Roses. (It's been a very long standing issue at home... And in supermarkets)

If someone made a browser extension that warned you when a retailer uses Evri I'd install that in a heartbeat.

My new favourite noise is the back and forth pecking between the two woodpeckers that have set up home in the trees outside my home office.

It's that weird season in the UK where you walk down the street and pass two people in flip-flops and shorts followed immediately by one in a puffer jacket and a knitted beanie

Oh, the fun of being in your 50s. I somehow just managed to put my back out and send myself into writhing agony by operating a kitchen tap. If anyone wants me I'll be laying on the living room floor

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

People seemed to enjoy the beach photo I shared here the other day, so I thought I'd share another. This one is the beautiful West Wittering Beach, photographed on a warm sunny February walk with Mrs B last Monday. #photography #westwittering #coastal #teampixel #westsussex

Any Bluesky geeks out there, or in fact anyone who wants to share an opinion. I'm getting back into photography, and thinking about using Bluesky for my photo sharing. Would it be best to use a separate dedicated account for this, or my main one? Anyone have opinions either way?

It's the first week of march and I'm mowing the lawn in a t-shirt. I'm going to try not to ponder the long term implications of this whilst just enjoying some welcome sun and warmth

if you're trying to understand Microsoft's latest quantum headline grab, I would recommend skimming Nature's peer review docs. opinion was split to say the least, with 2 of the 4 referees recommending that the paper not be published at all static-content.springer.com/esm/art%3A10...
"On a technical level, I already acknowledged a certain level of advance, but I estimated it well below the bar for publication
in a high-impact journal like Nature. I pointed out that reflectometry technics are a standard practice in solid-state qubits. Let
me add that the present work is not even the first one where dispersive reflectometry readout is applied to hybrid
superconductor-semiconductor devices expected to provide a path to topologically protected qubits. See e.g.: Ramadze et
al., Phys. Rev Appl. 11, 064011 (2019); Nguyen et al., Phys Rev B, 108, L041302 (2023) ; Hinderling et al.,
arXiv:2307.06718. Surprisingly, none of these papers is cited.
Due to the above reasons, I am firmly convinced this work should not be published in Nature or any other high visibility
journal.""Given my overall impression and comments above, I cannot recommend the paper for publication in Nature."

I've recently reported scores of scam posts on tiktok. These are all the same obvious scam: a fake news story about free money directing people to an obvious scam site. 80% of my reports come back "no violation". Half of those that result in action get overturned on appeal. Awful moderation

I just uploaded an 18m whatsapp chat to NotebookLM (with participants permission) & had it generate one of its podcast summaries as a fun experiment. It got a few things wrong, but it also came up with some cracking insights into the people in the chat. Really fun, but definitely not sharable!

Bluesky became more important this week. Users on tiktok, Instagram and Facebook are reporting censorship of political posts, trump criticism and Free Luigi content. Reddit mysteriously has very little discussion about it, but there is more here in the BlueSky free world.
