Today I spent several hours writing a Tetris tiling algorithm and optimizing it only to find out there's a GitHub repo that does the exact same thing but several thousand times faster... But then I found out it misses some cases so my version is technically more accurate so I'll take that as a win

That's one of the main things that turned me off when I tried playing Zenless Zone Zero... I'm glad Genshin (my main game) isn't *that* bad, even though it's still, y'know, base line gacha level bad. Man. I wish games nowadays were normal and not unethical forever money printing machines.

If you want to save even more space, you can convert the images to JXL. Its adoption is still *very* out there though at the moment since it's such a new format. But it can even losslessly recompress JPG files to make them about 20% smaller without losing any quality, which is incredibly nice.

I never tried to get people to like the format. As I said, it has its flaws, but those are not what people focus on. The thing I have a problem with is people blaming the format for its lack of adoption, plus this post, even if it is a meme, straight up lying about it having "not a single benefit".

You could definitely complaing about WebP's shortcomings, like its atrocious lack of color profile support, but no one ever focuses on that. No one ever complains about audio everywhere transitioning to opus, which is also objectively better than any other audio format.

As someone who is passionate about technology and file formats, this is just incredibly disheartening to see. Anything new will always need adoption, no matter how good it is. After 9 hours of printing, turns out I should've checked what the slicer output before hitting print 🙃 All the weird looking bits are empty layers because the geometry was messed up. All I had to do was press the "repair" button... I also ran out of black halfway through and many parts broke off

After some fiddling I fixed that too, only to find out that I cant deploy the project because there is no "upload via USB" option, only "upload via cloud" which is a paid feature. Sure is nice having all this cloud bullshit forced on me and only at the end do I find out I have to pay for basic shit

I finally got it to work by restarting the device, the cloud agent, the browser, and using a different USB port. Then it got stuck in an infinite loop trying to set up an example project.

Add to that that their own software fails to recognize their own device 90% of the time and that the first wiring diagram I've seen, that is intended specifically for this starter kit, can't actually be done because the included cables are too short. I have mixed feelings about this.

I bought my first microcontroller starter kit. The box was proudly labeled "WE LOVE OPEN SOURCE", but in order to do the tutorial stuff, you have to go to their website, create an account, install their software, and use their cloud service. Hm.
