I stumbled across a delightful short film on Prime. The One Note Man (2023), starring Jason Watkins. A charming, dialogue-free story about a lonely basoonist of routine whose role is to play a single note. One day his routine is changed forever. It's a joy to watch #storytelling #indiefilm

When I'm not knee deep in manuscripts, I'm in my allotment. This is the first time I've had success with aubergine. Really proud of my cucumbers too. It won't exactly be a bumper crop, but I still love the excitement of seeing veg grow 🍆 🥒 #Allotment #gardening #hobbies #WhenI'mNotWorking

I think the ban for under-16s will help, but the next challenge is, how to get them become more creative. There’s little point taking away social media if they feel there's nothing to replace it. My (now grown up) kids loved books/comics ... but that doesn't seem to be a general trend. #readmore

The problem wasn’t just the perfectly polished, yet mediocre prose. It’s what’s lost when we surrender the struggle to translate thought into words

A good transition does more than move the reader from one section to the next. It makes them feel the connection. Weak transitions say, "Now I will talk about X." Strong transitions make X feel inevitable. #NonfictionWriting #WritingCraft #WritingTips #EditingTips #WritersOfBluesky #Booksky

"The easiest reading is damned hard writing." (Thomas Hood) When I read a book that feels effortless to read, I think of the labour that made it feel that way. It may have taken hundreds of hours to write, and as many to edit. Both are invisible crafts. #nonfiction #writing #writerslife #Booksky

The edit isn't an attack on your first draft. It's a conversation between who you were when you started and who you've become by the time you've finished. As a writer, you've likely learned so much during the process. Would you agree? How have you grown as a writer? #Nonfiction #WritingTips #Booksky

Nonfiction writers: your anecdotes are doing more work than you realise. A well-placed story illustrates the point, makes abstract ideas feel real, and makes your reader think, "Yes. That's exactly it." Do you agree? #Nonfiction #WritingCraft #StorytellingTips #WritersOfBluesky #Booksky

Lighter evenings incoming… ☀️ In just four weeks, the sun will be setting after 7pm, giving us more time for birdsong, golden skies, and peaceful walks... What have you spotted in nature this weekend? Share below! 👇
A breathtaking sunset bathes RSPB Arne in golden light, casting a warm glow over a sea of vibrant heather and lush green ferns. A lone pine tree stands tall in the foreground, its dark silhouette contrasting against the soft pink and orange hues of the sky. The landscape stretches into the distance, dotted with scattered trees, as the last rays of sunlight streak through the branches. A scene full of colour, warmth, and the quiet magic of a late summer evening.
