Stomach-wrenching. I've seen countless bloody videos from Gaza, so I thought I knew what to expect. But this shows the destruction of a community. Of a people. Watching individuals being murdered is horrific. Seeing whole neighbourhoods razed is somehow worse.

I think it's getting legs purely because we don't want to lay all that blame at the players feet. When I think of the Dunnes workers, it's hard to use it as an out for rich footballers. Realistically we expected too much from lads that kick leather. Bazunu aside

What has emerged at a later part of the FAI press conference: Knowing the circumstances of the upcoming games, the FAI did a trawl of prospective callups and checked with abut 30 of the most likely players to ensure they were comfortable fulfilling those fixtures. Goalkeepers were not among them.

Whatever your opinion on the game going ahead or not, there is a question mark over for me as a fan of Gavin Bazunu being singled out. No sense of numbers in how many players notionally joined him in voting against the game. You'd forgive him for feeling isolated to some extent now.

Watching Ireland play football can be tough at times. Yet we do it. I've been to home games and I know plenty of people who travel the world for them. I don't think I've ever been so at odds with a team I support. And for them to be representative of a nation and to so at odds with the majority

Context to Gavin Bazunu’s position: a matchday squad of 23 must be submitted to UEFA before midnight tonight, and *must* include three goalkeepers. Were he to simply refuse to play, the FAI would only be able to submit a squad if they (farcically) redesignated an outfielder as a goalkeeper.
