One of the arguments that @martinlodge.bsky.social and I put forward in our essay on Brexit in JEPP a few years back was that the referendum was symptomatic of a ruling class that had lost interest in governing. Seeming unwillingness to tackle party finance rules seems consistent with that.

This is a great piece. But as a ‘European’ I am puzzled how the Anglo Saxons always talk about continental Europe as the land of abundant modern infrastructure. Somehow the German news look very different.
