Godot 4 is such a great improvement over all, except for the tweens. There are so many cases where I just wish I could store tween so I can easily do things with them or stop them, etc., but doing so with the new tween system is just such a hassle.

By all means ask for reviews for you game because it’s nice to have them but the Steam algorithm doesn’t care about reviews (unless they are mostly negative). Valve have said this. The algo cares about sales (revenue). The best way to help indies is to actually buy their games.

I keep being surprised by the amount of twitch streamers who have no email anywhere. I even see it with streamers who do have few thousand followers and get 50+ views. Unless I somehow catch them live, can't send them a Sokobos 2 key. :(

Sokobos 2 sales are decent, but not good enough that I could justify a sequel at the moment. Which sucks, because I really wanna make Sokobos 3 and I got so many great ideas for it, but I am running a business now and I must make good decisions so my company doesn't go bankrupt.

Recently I learned the true importance of market research, but I also see too many people just doing that forever and just not starting prototyping, let alone developing and shipping. At the end of the day, you always learn the most from shipping a game.

I've officially got a handle on the basics of Godot and now I'm starting to prototype implementation details and level design. I've sorely missed this design phase part of gamedev. I explored a bit of metroidbrainia design with Gentoo Rescue, but now I'm excited to apply it as a central theme.

Screenshot of the prototype. It's very rough looking, with solid colors for walls (black), background (green), and lava (red). There are some white checkpoint flags and a white arrow, which is the player character.

There are lava obstacles to the left and the right of the player. The player might need some more knowledge to get past one of these. The prototype title is "mb_platformer".

Pricing Sokobos 2 at $9.99 instead of $4.99 was the best thing I could have done. Seriously, there's no reason to price well done games below $9.99 anymore. Good indie games are worth the higher price. The game isn't even THAT long. 2-3 hours for those familiar with the genre.
