When councillor Evans deleted the comments she was subsequently accused of "shutting down discussion" which is of course ridiculous. It's impossible to have a discussion with people who refuse to accept facts that challenge their belief.
Describing the comments, Evans continued: "The comment thread was 'traitors', 'taxis for migrants', they were some of the politest ones."

She said one of the comments was suggestive of violence, adding: "I don't want to go on because I don't want to give those comments oxygen but they were really, really bad."

Evans said she deleted the comments but was subsequently criticised for "shutting down discussion".

"I wasn't shutting down discussion because there was no discussion available to be had," she said. "I was shutting down hatred."A total of 16,513 people arrived in the UK in small boats in the year to 1 September, 43% lower than the same period the previous year.

UK net migration has meanwhile dropped to its lowest level outside of the Covid pandemic since 2012.

in an attempt to stop lifeboats landing 140 illegal migrants they had picked up in the English Channel

While the now-defunct EDL largely focused on boisterous street protests, Thomas insists that his movement will follow a 'non-violent' path, despite the intimidating tactics of those balaclavas and much talk of 'boots on the ground'.

In Portsmouth on Sunday, several police officers were injured and vehicles damaged.

Thomas, from Portsmouth, has a military background, having served as a tank driver with the King's Royal Hussars.

But his Army career was cut short, having been discharged on medical grounds before seeing any active service.

In 2016, he was jailed for two years after bursting into the home of Graham Page in Hayling Island, Hampshire, along with two accomplices.

Balaclava-clad anti-migrant activists led by convicted criminal 'Danny Tommo' stage latest protest outside Daily Mail office

 Published: 16:45, 9 September 2026 | Updated: 17:16, 9 September 2026

Balaclava-clad anti-migrant activists led by convicted criminal 'Danny Tommo' staged their latest protest today outside the Daily Mail's office.

The rabble-rouser, real name Daniel Thomas, organised protests that saw hundreds of masked men descend on Dover and Portsmouth over the weekend.

On Sunday, demonstrators shouting 'stop the boats' blockaded the Port of Dover, leading to roads becoming gridlocked and holidaymakers missing ferry crossings.

A day later, they gathered in the Eastney area of Portsmouth in an attempt to stop lifeboats carrying 140 illegal migrants they had picked up in the English Channel from reaching the shore.

Thomas, the 37-year-old founder of Patriot Platform, was angered by the Mail's coverage of the protests and his family background. He accused the Mail of ‘doxxing my mother’s address’, in a reference to publishing private information about someone without their permission.

But in fact the article about him only included the name of his company and the city where she lived.

'Danny Tommo' - real name Daniel Thomas - addresses his sinister mob outside the Daily Mail office

Thomas, the 37-year-old founder of Patriot Platform, was angered by the Mail's coverage of this weekend's protests and his family background

Dozens of protesters, dressed in their familiar black uniforms and with their faces covered, stood in formation outside the entrance to the Daily Mail's office

In response, he summoned his followers to gather this afternoon outside the Mail's offices in Kensington, west London, where they were met by officers from the Metropolitan Police.

Dozens of protesters, dressed in their familiar black uniforms and with their faces covered, stood in formation outside the building's entrance.

Thomas walked up and down the street addressing the men, who responded with claps and cheers.

He describes his army of protesters as 'working-class men who are bricklayers, roofers and carpenters who build the house you live in, the roads you drive on'.

Yet, as the Mail revealed yesterday, his solidly middle-class upbringing appears to be very different from the men he claims to represent.

He attended a private school in Hampshire and his father Russell was a university-educated skiing enthusiast who retired to Brittany.

Thomas went on to become a bodyguard for English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson and has been hailed by some as his heir apparent on the far-Right.

"I had never really stopped to consider what an extraordinary thing the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is. Think about it. A troubled ship calls for help, and eight people – teachers, plumbers, the guy who runs the pub – drop everything and put to sea, whatever the weather, asking no questions, imperilling their own lives, to try to help strangers. Is there anything more brave and noble than that?"

Dumb-founded protestors were left scratching their heads after they confused a Pakistan cricket team for a coach of migrants.

Demonstrators gathered at The Marriott Hotel in Southampton Road, Cosham, last night (September 8). This was spurred on after a boat of 120 asylum seekers were brought to Eastney Marina on Sunday (September 6), sparking protests which featured black-shirted men wearing balaclavas.
