I'm starting one day behind, heh. Today's candy comes from Poland and is described as a "brittle sugared crust wrapped around a tender, chewy center." SO isn't a fan ("Too sweet for me," he says), but I like the milky, toffee-like taste.
Close up on day one from the advent calendar. A red and yellow striped house with peaks and gables. I can already tell that I'm going to wish I knew anything at all about architecture while writing these alt-texts.Krowka candy; yellow text on a black and white wrapper

As a happy pub day gift, my incredible CP, Anna Priemaza, gave me this Halloween advent calendar. Shall I share with you as we wend our way through crunchy leaves and pumpkin patches toward the best night of the year?
Box labeled "Trick or Treat Across the World!" 30 days of treats from Universal Yums candy & chocolate advent calendar.Opened box shows 30 houses of different international styles, labeled with numbers. Very cute.

These were three individual pieces I did in 2021. Unplanned, they became something of an accidental sequence. They then prompted me to make the piece in the quoted post, of the pumpkin dance, by way of a conclusion. Ink on Fabriano Medioevalis, each 95 × 64 mm.
Three small silhouette drawings in black ink. The first is of a sitting fox, looking back over its shoulder at a bird on the branch of a little bare shrub. The second has a playful-looking fox, half-crouched, tail in the air, looking at a bird which has just taken off from a branch. The third shows a fox, surprised, its head drawn slightly back, as it seems to have come upon a pumpkin on the ground, surrounded by its vines. It has a face like a carved jack-o'-lantern.

🍂 𝔊𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔱 𝔎𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔎𝔯𝔞𝔱𝔱 🎃 The dim-winged spirits of the night Do fear and serve me well. They creep from out the hedges of The fields where I dwell... ...Then dig a treasure called the moon, A very precious thing, And keep it in the air for me Because I am a King!
Text: Great King Kratt

Image: a double spread illustration at a dutch angle depicting a harvested field of corn under moonlight. A huge construct of branches, rope, and twigs skitters and lurches across the field on many legs like a great artificial spider. It possesses a face of many carved jack o lanterns, eyes and mouths flickering dimly under its shadowy bulk. I loved Chitty Chitty Banga Bang as a kid!!! (But was always so confused by the "intermission" I had to fast-forward through on my VHS tape. I love an intermission for a theatrical release, but it was very strange on VHS.)

Huh. Today in "always look up the etymology because sometimes you're just repeating a myth but sometimes it's weirder and more incredible than you could have possibly imagined" www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/c...
Screenshot of Merriam Webster etymology note for cockamamie:
By the look and sound of it, cockamamie (also spelled "cockamamy") could have something to do with a rooster and the outrageous sound it makes. But in fact, cockamamie is believed to be an altered form of the term decalcomania, which refers to the process, invented in the mid-19th century, of transferring pictures and designs from specially prepared paper to surfaces such as glass or porcelain. (The word referring to the picture or design itself, decal, is a shortening of decalcomania.) The word decalcomania comes from French, with décalcomanie combining the verb décalquer, meaning "to trace" or "to transfer by tracing," and -manie, meaning "-mania." Starting in the 1930s, painted strips of paper with images capable of being transferred to the skin were called decals or—in children's slang—cockamamies. Those familiar with today's temporary tattoos will understand quickly that these were regarded by many as silly novelties, lending the word cockamamie the necessary leeway for application to anything ridiculous.

This one's easy because my debut novel just came out yesterday ^.~ THE BONE BRIDES is a Sapphic YA portal fantasy with vibes of Hayao Miyazaki x Guillermo del Toro, about a girl who must save her changeling girlfriend from a terrifying faery realm.

I know Effie! Funny enough, although we met at a writers' conference, it was because I went to summer camp (in Pennsylvania, not CA!) with her sister, who then was like, "Wait, I think you are currently at the same conference as my sister! You should meet up."
