It's about the violence of growing up, the fear of speaking your own thoughts, feeling stupid for struggling, and how hard it is to like the person you chose to become every day. And, yeah, it's about a knight who goes searching for The Grail. That's still there.

The writing of this comic was born from me reaching a point in my life where I was hit with the concern that I had followed the path of least resistance for too long. I listened to the wrong voices and learned all the wrong lessons. And I wanted to make a comic about how it felt to be a young man.

The end of Dietrich's Part 1 plotline fully lifting from Princess Mononoke still had me misty as hell last night.

If you're teaching a comic in an English class, I do think it's important to have your students attempt to redraw a page at least once as part of building their visual analysis skills. It does a lot to encourage them to think more actively about each line as a conscious decision from the cartoonist.

I wish there was a little more to the movie, but it's under two hours and has a pretty clear eye.

There's a shot of a character standing in front of a wall of missing persons posters while the crew plan their sting operation with the police, and the weight of knowing that nothing they're doing will help find those people or undo any harm is devastating.

I very briefly edited some articles Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou was writing waaaay back in the day about comics craft, and that did not last very long at all because that dude has an amazing comics brain that far outshines my own. One of the best you can read on the actual craft of visual storytelling.

I think in fairness to her, it's less that she picked one genre and more that was responding specifically to an article she was sharing about a rating system for how explicit content in romance is.

I didn't read her tweet as condemning the genre or the people working in it so much as identifying that there are audiences who care more about consuming than they do experiencing the art form. Which is pretty apparent from the fact that we have to deal with the spectre of AI at all.

What Joyce Carol Oates said about a swath of romance readers is true about a lot of speculative fiction and cape comics readers. A portion of those audiences show up for formula, do not want an authorial stamp, and would gladly consume AI content so long as it checked the right boxes.

His PPV match with Orange Cassidy in the early days of AEW is one of my favorite I've ever seen. His intensity worked so well in serious storylines and comedy without ever losing any credibility. God damn.
