Neoliberal ideology is founded on the idea that government gets in the way of growth. After decades of evidence we know the truth, government was getting in the way of greed.

I'm in agreement. Canada needs stronger laws against adversarial foreign nations misinforming the people, buying our politicians, and destabilizing the nation.

America built a country around the idea that more money is better. Then it became more money means I'm better. Celebrating the people who have hoarded the most, the average American aspired to follow them. So they traded their time, health and happiness and now, in desperation, their humanity.

The poor have been convinced to become just as selfish as the wealthy. Its sold as an ideal to aspire to and have pride in and selfishness is used to define fairness. As people become more stressed, they become more selfish which prevents real governmental help. youtube.com/shorts/la5zN...

Want to solve the housing crisis? Housing is both a commodity and an investment. Current prices reflect the investment price. If we stop treating housing as an investment, housing prices will reflect the commodity price, which is a lot lower and sustainable over generations.

The more I see of Mark Carney and his liberal policies the more I find myself believing Mr Carney is a corporate socialist. With one hand he consistently lowers taxes and sells public assets. With the other, he protects corporations from workers unions and government regulations. Am I wrong?

I’m starting to think we should stop treating free‑market politics as a serious worldview. One reason? They praise competition as the creator of many benefits for the consumer, right up until their donors start losing to the competition. Then suddenly it's all about how government needs to help.

Governments main advantage over the private sector? Government doesn't need profit margins. This allows for solutions designed to deliver value to the people instead of extract value. It's also why "run government like a business" is a really bad idea.

Government is inefficient because of all the bureaucracy. Did you know this is by design? Bureaucracy isn't there for efficiency. It's there to protect against corruption. It's a cost we pay to prevent corrupt people like Trump from having their way with public money.

Have you ever thought about how new money is made? It's not the government printing $ bills. The vast majority comes from new loans. When someone takes a loan from a bank, that bank creates the money. It also means that to grow the economy we have to increase how indebted people are.

I can't tell if the trillions of dollars of spending on AI is a huge display of capitalist success or if it's a demonstration of our failure as humanity considering this kind of spending would have ended world hunger, poverty, educated the world, cleaned up the oceans, curbed global warming, etc.

After the Holocaust, there was an effort to find what human traits were common in evil people or evil deeds. With lots of examples, they found it had nothing to do with what religion, political leaning, or country you were born to. The one consistent factor was a consistent lack of empathy.

Small neighbours of great powers have been used throughout history to keep those great powers in check. Great Britain supported Portugal to keep Spain in check. France supported Scotland to keep great Britain in check. Who might support Canada to keep the USA in check? My bet is the EU or China.

Danielle Smith keeps going out of her way to protect and aid US interests in this trade war. She's even willing to destabilize Canada with her separatist agenda. I really wish Albertans or UCP members would vote her out. I would also welcome an RCMP investigation into possible corruption ties.

I'm really glad Carney turned down the trade deal with the USA. I will not be forgetting that Carney was one step away from begging to have US alcohol back on the shelves. I think he thought this deal was a good deal until Canadian reactions (and Wab Kinew) told him otherwise.

As the Canada USA trade war escalates I want to remind people. This is a war fought with our dollars. The casualties are Canadian jobs and businesses. Boycotting products from the USA and USA businesses works. If you have the means, increase your overall spending on Canadian and non-USA products.

I'm leaning towards no trade deal with the USA. Why? Trump is violating the CUSMA trade deal we made with him. Trump violated the trade deal he made with the EU. Trump violated the trade deal with the South Koreans. A trade deal handcuffs us while legalizing his illegal tariffs. #cdnpoli

The retaliation of Canada's provinces and individual Canadians boycott is having a large impact on Canada's negotiation position. I can only wonder what position we would be in if we actually retaliated on a federal level. I worry Carney, as a banker, is too timid to attempt this option. #cdnpoli

Universal healthcare has not helped the profit margins of healthcare providers. This is why there is a lot of money spent trying to convince people that universal healthcare isn't working. So they can increase profit margins at your expense.

We've been pursuing free market economics for decades and it's working as intended. How can that be so with a housing crisis and an affordability crisis? Well, those with money aren't experiencing any crisis. This is exactly how free markets work.
030
Mark Totten @marktottenpolitics.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
Housing affordability is so bad, the average person is bringing back multigenerational homes to solve the problem. It's becoming normal for parents to expect their kids will never move out because of housing costs.

How is our government supposed to fix issues like general affordability and housing crisis when our MPs and Prime Minister have no firsthand exposure to it? None of them struggle to buy groceries or gas. Most of them have multiple homes. I see no surprise why the problem keeps getting worse.

With @robcerjanec.bsky.social and @navdeepbains.bsky.social entering the Ontario Liberal leadership race, we urge them to back proportional representation. We must fix a broken system where the party came second in popular vote but a distant third in seats, while Ford won a majority on 43%.
An infographic titled "Ontario votes 2025" compares two pie charts to demonstrate the difference between the popular vote and the final seat distribution.

The first pie chart, titled "How we voted (popular vote)", shows the PC party at 43%, the Liberal party at 29.9%, the NDP at 18.6%, the Green party at 4.8%, and Other at 3.8%.

The second pie chart, titled "What we got (seats)", shows how those votes translated into legislative power: the PC party share increases significantly to 64.5% of the seats, the NDP gets 21.8%, the Liberal party drops significantly to 11.3%, the Green party drops to 1.6%, and Other drops to 0.8%.
