Hi Martin, I’d say that retrofit is the term used when refurbishing a house to reduce make a healthy home which reduces environmental impact. It achieves this by improving thermal comfort, energy efficiency and air quality, and by adopting a low carbon heating strategy.

The house in the photo is Steel Farm (which I designed). It is an unvented roof. A similar roof which I monitored showed a correlation between the solar gains and loft temperature. (Which wouldn’t occur in a vented roof) which is why the snow melts.
