Built to honor William Wallace near the site of his triumph over the British at Stirling Bridge in 1297, the sandstone tower was completed in 1869. Wallace, made famous in the movie Braveheart with Mel Gibson, is a Scottish hero. The statue of Wallace on the exterior of the tower was created by David Watson Stevenson.
