This looks fab! Great plays & actors. I was a bit surprised to see Stanley Holloway appearing in a new production, bearing in mind he died in 1982. But it turns out it's actually Stanley Townsend who's always excellent @markravenhill.bsky.social @radiotimes.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/...
BBC Radio 4 and the Royal Court Theatre, which this year marks its 70th anniversary, have confirmed details of a collaboration that will bring acclaimed contemporary drama from the Royal Court's rich history and the BBC archive to audiences nationwide.

At the heart of the collaboration is a new radio production of Lucy Kirkwood's award-winning play The Children, which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 2016 before transferring internationally, including to Broadway. The production will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday 26 September at 3pm until 4.30pm.

The play follows retired nuclear physicists Hazel (Anastasia Hille) and Robin (Stanley Holloway), who wonder why their former colleague Rose (Emma Fielding) has turned up at their house near the damaged power station where they used to work. Over the course of the play, old alliances and divisions are exposed and it becomes clear that Rose has a challenging proposition for her old friends, as the play explores personal and professional responsibility within the context of a global crisis.

Playwright Mark Ravenhill has curated a selection of radio adaptations of Royal Court plays drawn from seven decades of BBC archives. The collection will celebrate the theatre's enduring influence on British playwriting and showcase some of the most significant voices to have emerged from the Court since its founding, as well as star-studded casts including Ben Whishaw, David Bradley, David Troughton, Siobhan Finneran, Sheila Hancock, Nikki Amuka Bird, Elliot Levey, the late Helen McCrory and Brigit Forsyth. Following the broadcast of The Children, the archive productions will air on BBC Radio 4 Extra at 8.30pm each evening and will also be available on BBC Sounds in the Spotlight feed for 28 days after broadcast.

Today I’ve been leading an acting workshop in London with teenagers on Romeo and Juliet. When the actors are the same age as the characters it’s very upsetting. Although the young actors described it as ‘fun’! So just me upset then.

Some 1977 photos of Imogen Holst by Nigel Luckhurst (copyright Britten Pears Arts): conducting a rehearsal, and preparing with the young Steven Isserlis for a concert, first in her Church Walk home and then onstage in the Jubilee Hall.
A small elderly woman with glasses, hair tied back and a stripy top, seen over the top of an orchestra which she is conducting with vigour and a vibrant facial expression.A dark-haired young man sitting with a cello in a modernist living room; looking at him, seen from behind, is a small woman in a cardigan with her hair tied back, whom he is listening to with serious attention.A dark-haired young man sitting with a cello on a low stage, wearing street clothes and with the cello case propped on a chair next to him; looking at him, seen from behind, is a small woman in a checked coat with her hair tied back, whom he is listening to with serious attention.

Today's the birthday of Imogen Holst: composer, conductor, musicologist, educator and all-round powerhouse: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imogen_.... Her extensive archive is held at the Red House (www.bpacatalogue.org/archive/HOL) and her influence is woven into much of what Britten and Pears did here.
