TAG York: Very interesting session today on archaeology and neoliberalism, led by @haraldfred.bsky.social @drsadiewatson.bsky.social @rachelking.bsky.social and Pippa Postgate. As @guillermodiazliano.bsky.social noted, neoliberalism is the dominant paradigm in archaeology. Lots to think about!

Went to listen to Anders Högberg talk about heritage futures at Riksantikvaren. It was a bit of a shock to realize how little of this research and modern thoughts about heritage have filtered down to the decision-making level. Concerning given a new heritage law is being written.

BBC suggesting that Lee Carsley made his debut just over 100 years ago? Would be good if BBC had just a little bit of interest in Ireland - both history and current affairs.

Call for papers - Session #466 @archaeologyeaa.bsky.social Conference in Rome. @drsadiewatson.bsky.social, Kate Faccia, Francesca Benetti and I are organising a session on Facilitating Public Engagement and Participation in Development-led Archaeology. Get in touch if you have any questions!
This session aims to delve deeper into how we as archaeologists facilitate public engagement and participation within development-led archaeology. We take as our starting point the acknowledgement that archaeology is a social action and inherently political, and that as a result there are power imbalances in our work. These power differentials are often most clear when aiming to work with the public. How do we try to overcome these discrepancies, and do we succeed in making lasting changes? Is it possible to achieve a more equal and equitable archaeology within current frameworks?
This session will be a Pecha Kucha with speakers allowed six slides and six minutes to present their paper. We would like speakers to present case studies or opinions within the following sub-themes:
• Project design and financing
• Safeguarding and Health and Safety
• Collaboration with constructors and the authorities
• Reaching new audiences
The aim of the session is to stimulate discussion, inspire with g
