stuff like this is why one important avenue for court reform is just nixing the shadow docket altogether and forcing these people to explain themselves to the public when they issue orders. also, making their records property of the united states and subject to publication when they leave the bench.

I was asked about @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social. I said I'd endorse him if I lived in NY, that “He’s become symbolic of all of these fears that people have about so many other things that are not his to hold,” and a bunch of other stuff: forward.com/news/779548/...
For Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg, who writes the newsletter Life Is a Sacred Text from Chicago, the controversy reflects deeper communal and generational shifts. “Mamdani has become the lightning rod for Jewish communal tensions,” she said. “All of our intra-communal tsuris — everything that had begun to boil over since Oct. 7 — needs a new place to manifest, and this is where it’s going.”

She said the uproar is less about New York than about Jewish anxiety. “People’s fears about ‘antisemitism on the left’ find prominent articulation here, while a whole world of antisemitism on the right is being left unaddressed,” she said.

“There has been a sea change in how an entire generation engages with Israel,” she continued. “Mamdani’s popularity with younger Jews is reflective of that. It’s easier to blame him than to grapple with how the conversation around Israel has changed nationally and globally.”

Ruttenberg added that if she lived in New York, she would endorse him. “He has said repeatedly that he’s going to increase hate crime funding by 800% in New York, a city that he is meant to serve. His priority is not foreign policy.

“He’s become symbolic of all of these fears that people have about so many other things that are not his to hold,” she said.

I’m not blaming the Squad for anything that’s happening in Gaza, no. I’m blaming the Squad for clearly getting caught up in a foreign intelligence operation and using their massive platforms to further divide the Democratic Party before the most important election of our lives.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

No human system is human-proof. It's scary that there is no perfect organization of society that keeps everyone in line. The solution is actually democratic, asking how are our systems meeting the needs of the people, and doing something when they don't.

I think the big political lesson from the Trump Era really is. Everyone's choices matters. You have more power than you think. Progressivism isn't dead, it's gonna change. You can help make a stronger more loving world. Don't ever wait for permission to do something. Go do your thing.

Hopepunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction, conceived of as the opposite of grimdark. Works in the hopepunk subgenre are about characters fighting for positive change, radical kindness, and communal responses to challenges.

It's really funny how a lot of people are like "Who is Robbie Williams, why should I care about his biopic?" It shows how America's cultural dominance really warps us as an audience, we can't imagine someone can be a mega-star unless they are big here. I think that makes us less curious.

The Left is only gonna get stronger by embracing communities of faith. Religion can and should exist alongside progressive and democratic civic values. One of the biggest mistakes Democrats made in the past half-century was cede the religious and moral narrative to Republicans.

What experts forget is all "evidence-based understanding" is, for human brains, a social-emotional system of understanding grounded in norms. So when they see hucksters appealing to vibes and story, they keep just saying "well they're wrong" instead of using the same tools to win back the audience.
