I mean, the 3 is three blocks away too. Which is pretty consistent with other community centres.

Or putting a bike lane on sw marine drive in Vancouver before connecting the low income community of Champlain heights to the rest the city’s network.

Oh they don’t. It’s east van, but not the “good part of east van” that everyone associates with east van.

But BC Parkway wasn't properly built up till *after* Central Valley, and routes like Ontario and Adanac. Like, BC parkway when it was originally built in the 80s was as a recreation route as something to do with the land underneath the tracks, rather than encourage homeless folks to set up.

City of North Vancouver added Jersey barriers to approaches of new Crosscut Bridge, a $17-million pedestrian and cycling connector over Highway 1 -- BECAUSE A MOTORIST DROVE THEIR VEHICLE OVER IT. Bridge temporarily closed for engineering assessment. Pics: Geoff Fawkes, Facebook.

Oh absolutely, but if you go even further into the details, it gets worse for vancouver.

and 29 km of that is the Seawall- a route for at least 10km of that is primarily recreational. So really, Vancouver is down to 80ish km. Take away arbutus and central valley greenway and that's another 20km. Yeah, Vancouver isn't a bike friendly city.

And before you go “but cyclists do it too” Cyclists aren’t operating several ton pieces of machinery. We license forklift drivers more stringently than we do drivers of motor vehicles. #bikeyvr

I am begging for ICBC to actually make sure drivers know how right of way works, understand what sharrows actually mean, and in the latest case understand that waving me past you when your windows are tinted and I can’t see your mirrror isn’t going to help anyone. #cycling #bikecommuting #bikeyvr

River district hasn’t had a voting place since the first townhomes were built in 2012- the closest being a 30 minute walk one way. Olympic villages had one literally less than a year after the first residents moved in. #vancouver #vanpoli

Tough shit, it's called traffic calming; not driver calming.

Plus! This took less than a minute to find. It wasn’t hidden on some website- which means the purposely ignored it.

The fact that the article doesn’t even mention the rounds of local targeted consultation, or pull from the engagement summaries is just bad reporting, especially when they mention a specific number for a petition to get rid of it.
The engagement summary from the second round of consultation for traffic calming in the Hastings-sunrise neighborhood

Also, consultation started in 2023. It’s insane how long it takes to go from that to implementation.

mark burge @markburge.ca · 09/09/2026
Traffic calming was asked by so many in the neighbourhood that the city created an entire program so it could be replicated in other areas of the city. The fact is that traffic calming is massively popular, the problem is that Google Maps routes people down inappropriate routes.

Don't worry, we can just put all the bike routes on side streets. No wait, not like that.

Bridge is the big issue- but they could have cut ten minutes at least if they hadn’t done the Hastings stretch in Burnaby and Vancouver.

Honestly, it ends up being 40 minutes slower than the average drive in the morning, and 40 minutes slower by ebike. And thats in the perfect world. I figure it’s probably 10-15 minutes slower than what Google says.

Not that I know of. Willingdon from deer lake to Metrotown doesn’t, the bridge doesn’t and there’s still the awkward connection the bus lane from lower road to phibbs.

The R2 from Metrotown to park royal is up and running and it’s taken my estimated commute time by bus down by….. 10 minutes.

It has absurd visibility, the only time I've had issues is shoulder checking on my right as I look right into the pillar, which is partly because I'm a little too tall for it, and it's on the wrong side of the road.

There's an existing bed setup in the back, but fits a full sheet of plywood flat, unlike the vast majority of pickup trucks.

The lefts inability to get the house in order is all abc needs to point at when they make a policy point- “you guys can’t even pick a leader with folks who agree with you, how are you going to implement policy?!”

At the risk of betraying my cycling credentials, I got a van last week after months of importing it from Japan. It’s a 2008 Toyota regius ace.

Bicycle helmets are not designed for impacts with vehicles. Also if you get hit by a driver, you’re likely going to die from ten other things because you you just got hit by two tons.

No a third party is operating a mini golf course in Stanley park right now. It’s so poorly marketed though.

mark burge @markburge.ca · 01/09/2026
It still blows my mind that city staff thought putting a bike lane on SW marine drive first before connecting an entire corner of the city(that is historically underserved by amenities) to the network (which it still hasn't done) was a good idea. #vanpoli

The city would make so much money if it* operated a mini-golf course somewhere around false creek. *yes, I know there's one in stanley park right now.

It's absolutely going to used as a reason why we can't take back the responsibility of building the river district community centre, isn't it?

Yeah, arguably, it should be the ministry of health having a white paper or something that basically says, “we support active mobility infrastructure for xyz reasons”

And it’s complicated that government workers generally aren’t supposed to comment on other government things.

It’s actually ridiculous that VGH in Vancouver isn’t more supportive of the bike lane on 10th avenue.
