mark burge @markburge.ca · 22/09/2026and 29 km of that is the Seawall- a route for at least 10km of that is primarily recreational. So really, Vancouver is down to 80ish km. Take away arbutus and central valley greenway and that's another 20km. Yeah, Vancouver isn't a bike friendly city. 3102
mark burge @markburge.ca · 17/09/2026I am begging for ICBC to actually make sure drivers know how right of way works, understand what sharrows actually mean, and in the latest case understand that waving me past you when your windows are tinted and I can’t see your mirrror isn’t going to help anyone. #cycling #bikecommuting #bikeyvr 110
mark burge @markburge.ca · 12/09/2026River district hasn’t had a voting place since the first townhomes were built in 2012- the closest being a 30 minute walk one way. Olympic villages had one literally less than a year after the first residents moved in. #vancouver #vanpoli 012

mark burge @markburge.ca · 10/09/2026The fact that the article doesn’t even mention the rounds of local targeted consultation, or pull from the engagement summaries is just bad reporting, especially when they mention a specific number for a petition to get rid of it. 1143
mark burge @markburge.ca · 09/09/2026Also, consultation started in 2023. It’s insane how long it takes to go from that to implementation. 030
mark burge @markburge.ca · 09/09/2026Traffic calming was asked by so many in the neighbourhood that the city created an entire program so it could be replicated in other areas of the city. The fact is that traffic calming is massively popular, the problem is that Google Maps routes people down inappropriate routes. 0100

mark burge @markburge.ca · 01/09/2026Bicycle helmets are not designed for impacts with vehicles. Also if you get hit by a driver, you’re likely going to die from ten other things because you you just got hit by two tons. 0146
mark burge @markburge.ca · 01/09/2026It still blows my mind that city staff thought putting a bike lane on SW marine drive first before connecting an entire corner of the city(that is historically underserved by amenities) to the network (which it still hasn't done) was a good idea. #vanpoli 010
mark burge @markburge.ca · 20/08/2026It’s actually ridiculous that VGH in Vancouver isn’t more supportive of the bike lane on 10th avenue. 151

This is pretending that we don't already shovel money into the downtown core hoping investors do their thing. 100

mark burge @markburge.ca · 08/07/2026Look,I’m generally for painted bike lanes(they designate a space, so when you go to put in a permanent separated one there’s far less pushback, but you have to build the culture to support them if you’re not going to have a physical barrier. if that means ticketing folks like this, then so be it. 000

mark burge @markburge.ca · 07/07/2026Hot take: emotos wouldn’t be nearly as much of an issue(it’s barely one now) if cities had invested in separated micromobility routes over the past 20 years. Teenagers aren’t buying them- their parents are because they’re more reliable than public transit. 010
