Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 5hThis is the Brexiteers' last throw of the dice: it is obvious now, even to them, that the whole thing has been a disaster in everything except the prime reason, "I hate foreigners". So the last move in the game is to make it be someone else's fault. 020

Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 09/10/2026And I'd say that's a more positive representation of our culture, identity and history than anything Goodwin is likely to come up with. (As are woodland creatures to be fair) 130
Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Historical figures didn't appear on UK banknotes until 1970 (Shakespeare). Churchill didn't appear until 2016 and he was only the 2nd former prime minister or wartime leader, after Wellington. The vast majority have been from the Arts, or scientists. 251

Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I think a lot of the issues with large scale public sector IT projects is similarly that they are proposed on the basis that the technology will improve outcomes rather than using the tech to improve processes. So you end up with high tech systems mirroring pre-existing process inefficiencies. 170

Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 06/10/2026There are a lot of people like that who just do not want ex-forces people prosecuted no matter what, as if it would be ungrateful after the service they've given or something. And mainstream politicians appear to agree with that so I share your concern. 120

Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Yeah I'm trying because I feel like I'm missing out. It's a genre I've just ignored before. So recently I went to see Backrooms and Obsession. Pretty mainstream, not slashers or anything. Backrooms I found a difficult watch, but in the same way I find Alien or Jaws a difficult watch. So that's fine. 110
Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Oh I agree with what you're saying, totally. One of the horrors I watched, I appreciated it was a brilliant movie, well made, completely did what it meant to, I just found it unbearable to watch. And that's on me obviously. 110

Silent Stars @markbrophy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The point this person is making is just tactics. You tried this before and got stomped on, so don't do it this time. Not taking into account that anyone trying to do anything remotely progressive will get stomped. The implication being, just don't. Which doesn't seem like much of a plan for change. 020
