Tell that to the WHO. They're sure having trouble with the concept 😁 You can't trust guidance from sources that think things like this count as logic. The original cartoon was accurate - institutional medicine spent years misinforming everyone that handwashing was more important than N95s. 🤷

You obviously haven't read the UK COVID Inquiry's Module 3 report! Bluntly, WHO guidance is too often GRADE slop, assembled by committees of science cosplayers with no real understanding of what they are talking about. A medical opinion is not a PhD. See in particular sections 1.50-1.86.

6.2. Infection prevention and control
Infection prevention and control measures are aimed at preventing the transmission
of plague bacteria to health care workers and spread among other patients. They include
using:
• standard precautions in addition to droplet precautions. Standard precautions should
be used to manage all patients with suspected plague. Droplet precautions should be
adhered to for all patients with suspected pneumonic plague in addition to isolation;
• isolation arrangements for patients with suspected or confirmed pneumonic plague
(Annex 8);
• safe handling and burial practices for bodies (Section 8.3.1.1);
• carefully cleaning and disinfecting instruments. Instructions on preparing solutions
for disinfection are given in Annex 9;
• source control for patients with primary or secondary pneumonic plague, including

...IDK if these are the current versions but at least the Wikipedia page about pneumonic plague cites CDC and WHO guidance as saying a surgical mask is appropriate. So seems like the usual manipulative hand-waving is the default condition for plague as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumon...

Trouble is they've worked so hard to manufacture disinformation claiming that respirators and ventilation etc don't work as a "no harm, no foul" excuse for their COVID liability that even if they accept pneumonic plague is airborne, they'll still reject effective mitigations. Also...

Seeing as the 2026 WHO guidance assumes we can be certain Ebola is not and cannot become airborne and also says more research is needed to establish whether Ebola is airborne, this would be a really good time to figure out how we can get aerosol-appropriate PPE to healthcare workers in Africa ASAP.

Nearly at the point where public health traditionally starts to realize they may need to take an outbreak seriously (that's where it threatens to escape from Africa and kill people who have influence over public health budgets). Still assuming it's not airborne - without proof. 🙄
