To be fair, we should be able to smell mustard and onions through the paper. Both are aromatics.

Which is amazing per this quote from a CNN article: "Another attorney for Dunn, Sabrina Shroff, pressed Lairmore on that response, showing a photo of the sandwich on the ground, still wrapped in the Subway paper."

Even more important in light of what Alt National Parks reported on, deliberate disinformation near polling sites.

Didn't it just win the World Fantasy Award?

At least now it rhymes with "Moses."

Your Pacific Standard Time crow.

A crow perches on the peak of a roof. Its head is turned to look right. The sky behind it is unbroken blue.

Weird for me is that I remember seeing it as a kid.

... as if someone's saying, "No kings."

As a former public servant (and I wasn't embarrassed by that expression) this is one of the things I love about the books. Ana and Din are working to keep the government healthy and honest.

A pair of cheerful images this morning.

Against a pale green blurred background, a raven perches on a brown fence post. Its body faces the camera and its head is curved to viewer's left. The ruffling of feathers on breast and head can be seen. Very glossy.

A green-backed hummingbird hovers, drinking from a long, tubular purple flower, one of a cluster of them. Lavender colored flowers show lower left, in-focus leaves surround the bird and the blossom cluster.

Something tranquil this morning.

At dawn, against a backdrop of dark evergreen trees, a doe stands facing the camera. The grass under her feet is pale green.

Two rejections in the past two weeks, but 2 different indie bookstores want some of my books on consignment, so that's good.

I love the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference every year, but this year the synergy of the Speculative Fiction workshop was off the charts! A great workshop leader, great writers, and generous, committed readers. #MCWC2025

So much better than the photo I just posted.

Another Mendocino memory; the mouth of Big River.

Against a blue and white sky (thin clouds) three poles in the beach stand march away from the viewer, left to right. Beyond the farthest you can see light surf as Big River reaches the ocean, and beyond that, two tree-covered hills.

ReaderCon's one of my favorites.

This is from January, 2025, but it felt like a "crow family" morning.

Four crows perch in a bare-branched winter tree, against a dark blue sky.

My credit card's security algorithm is so funny! "We'll let that BIG charge for the round-trip train ride slide by, but this under-$100 trip insurance charge... this looks sketch."

This hardcover is now in my hands. In addition to donating a story I bought a copy because duh. This is an amazing outpouring of love and support by some great storytellers. Eager to dig in!

Sure, let the fourth largest economy in the world, and second largest donor-state "go." Good thinking there.

Great blue heron, male, in mating plumage. Yesterday, Bodega Bay, California.

A male great blue heron perches in the canopy of a tree. The bird is in mating plumage, and a frilly white feather "beard" dangles from its throat. Who says beards aren't sexy?
