Pieces of Portsoy: Pobbles. Now open on Church Street, Portsoy, Scotland, halfway between my studio-gallery and the Portsoy Gallery near the harbour, is Pobbles Portsoy, a new artist-owned and -run gallery which also has some art materials and art books, and serves coffee, cookies, and dog treats.

The friendly "harbour cat" in Portsoy, northeast Scotland, who hangs out at the old harbour (built 1690s) on sunny days. At the back is the beautifully repaired harbour wall, breached in a storm at New Year's 2026. Still a bit to do, but safe for this winter.

Performative politics for voters from Westminster. It doesn't change the price of fuel. Also: does he know just how far apart petrol stations are in much of Scotland?

When you're looking at this North East Open Studios sign, my studio is behind you, across the road. I couldn't figure out what arrow to draw on the sign to suggest this. In Portsoy, Scotland.

When we lived on Skye, I played with wire a lot after being introduced to it by the artist Liza Hawthorne. It's been a while but I dug out my supplies and have got playing again. I've made a few Highland cows in time for North East Open Studios. One has already wandered off to greener pastures.

10 years on from my Interlude solo exhibition at Skyeworks Gallery on the Isle of Skye and I have a new collection of flower paintings that I am even more pleased in my studio-gallery in Portsoy. Getting them hung up ready for open studios next month. Three copies of my Interlude catalogue left.

Delighted to sell "The White Wall" in my studio-gallery yesterday, one of my favourites of my Portsoy paintings. It's heading across the pond to the USA.
Painting featuring the white wall with railing alongside the road at the harbour in Portsoy. 30x30cm. Framed in light wood.

It started as a demo in orange and blue colour mixing, then I spread the paint across the whole sheet, then the words "harbour wall" came up, and this is where it ended up.
Hard for me to put into words. An expressive abstracted painting that could be interpreted as a section of stone harbour wall with a wild sea breaking against it.A close up revealing orange through scratches in wet paint.

Once upon a time, when I lived on the Isle of Skye, I had an honesty-box art gallery, now I have a "real" one on the main street in Portsoy. 😀 Dreams can come true! #art

As I was working on a monotype print last night, the petals of one of the glorious scented roses that were my inspiration fell off, tumbling into the ink. It felt like a metaphor for grief. All looks pretty and held together, then all of a sudden not; gather up the pieces, and try again.

Giant maroon coloured poppy with shredded shaggy petals (no doubt some horticultural term for this).

Had such fun painting the tantalising giant poppies in a friend's flower garden this morning. Such deceptively simple "red" flowers. I had three attempts, and like this the most because I think it's got that ethereal feel of these flowers. #art #painting #mixedmedia
