If you're also kinda broke because you're in between grad school and your first job--or kinda broke for some other reason--this is a great cheap recipe. And its even better if you blend it.
Recipe for potato and leek soup:
3 tbs olive oil
1.5 lbs potatoes, chopped
3 leeks, sliced and rinsed
4 C vegetable stock

Put oil in a large pot over mediumhear. Add potatoes, leeks, salt, and pepper and cook 2-3 mins.

Add stock and cook unit potatoes are tender (15-20mins). Blend.

As you may know, the job market has been tough the past few years, which is why I feel especially proud and lucky to announce that in Fall 2026 I will be joining the English Department at Santa Clara University in the Bay Area of California as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Writing Studies!

Last week, I successfully defended my dissertation, "Visualizing the Knowledge Networks of Rhetoric and Writing Studies Journals" under the direction of Bronwyn Williams, Tim Johnson, Susan Ryan, and Derek Mueller! However, I only managed to get a photo with half of my committee -- whoops!

There is a rightwing student network targeting faculty who engage in research and teaching or simply exist in ways that contradicts their political views and we have to develop strategies to avoid falling into their traps while collectively organizing to protect academic freedom from their attacks

Interesting that we’re seeing ads for ChatGPT now. It’s almost like they over-promised and under-delivered and are having trouble finding people who are actually willing to pay to use it.
