Adam Lashinsky is so phenomenally stupid. A wet slice of bread could beat Steve Hilton if it had a D next to its name. Mahan is maybe the only democrat Hilton *could* beat. His policies suck and nobody knows him. I’m supposed to listen to a political columnist who didn’t know who the state AG was?

San Francisco Standard Adam Lashinsky writes: The reason I voted for Mahan isn’t just because of his policy bona fides or his clear intelligence. I also think Mahan would stand the best chance against Republican Steve Hilton, a consistent front-runner in the polls who looks likely to make it to November. In fact, Mahan would mop up Hilton. If the general election is close, it won’t be about who people on either extreme will vote for. It would be about who centrist Californians would choose.
I don’t think they’d choose Katie Porter or Tom Steyer, progressive stalwarts with deficient political resumes. Conventional wisdom holds that because Democrats outnumber Republicans by such a wide margin in California, any Democrat will win, even the boring and conventional frontrunner, Xavier Becerra.

Lashinsky continues: The conventional wisdom is usually right, but not always. I met Becerra once. The two of us were in a small elevator headed to a TV studio. He turned to me and said, “I’m Xavier Becerra.” An awkward silence followed. “The attorney general of California,” he added. He didn’t seem too miffed that I didn’t know who he was — probably because he’s used to it. I suspect voters will feel the same way about him in November.
As for Hilton, whose campaign launch in Huntington Beach I covered what seems like years ago, I continue to believe that he’ll shed his unsavory MAGA-ness and tack toward the center during the general, making him scarily formidable against a garden-variety California liberal. Hilton is smooth and charismatic, which in a campaign masks the fact that he hasn’t had a real job in years.

RIP Winter. You deserved so much better than what the world gave you, you sweet precious angel. In 2023, 19 month old Winter Rayo’s parents left her alone in a room with fentanyl. She died of an overdose. They waited 11 hours to report it. They were thankfully found guilty of murder today.
