Good thing I read: H. P. Lovecraft: Advice to Aspiring Writers (1920) “...a story of Poe’s will impress upon the mind a more vivid notion of powerful and correct description and narration than will ten dry chapters of a bulky textbook.” Believe it. What #EdgarAllanPoe can do in 3 pages is magic.

Argh, jealous! Why do I live *all the way across the damned country*? I'm 2,300 miles to @jeffdkr.bsky.social or @221bcooee.bsky.social. #sherlockholmes brings me the best of friends but 99% of them live east of the Mississippi. (TBH, I do dearly love living in the Pacific Northwest but still.)

Yep, @221bcooee.bsky.social I knew there were letters somewhere; I had read about his argument with his sister when she got upset when she first became aware. Apparently, later, she got over being worried about the situation for some reason. I guess a supposed emotional affair was OK... who knows.

Odd-ball question to the #SherlockHolmes world: Is there anyone else who wonders why Sidney Paget put a face on the rock in this art? [That face is the inspiration for a #Gothic story I'm #writing and looking at it so often is making me feel a little weird.]

@jeriwesterson.bsky.social — this book is not a map. It is a detailed walk across the UK, to physically match an actual site to almost every location mentioned, and identifying most plausible sites for those with false names in the Canon. The work on HOUN alone is worth the cost of the book.
