@brokenfrontier.bsky.social are really on the ball. Second time this week picking up something by a creator they highlighted (this one @starspilli.bsky.social ). Very Hungry Women so good I've signed up to be notified when the Kickstarter begins for issue 2. Gorgeous art and entertaining story.

@cuntersthompson.bsky.social and @molcher.bsky.social - great podcast. Remembered this cover from the first copy of Arkensword I bought back in the 80a (sadly my copy has been lost). Thought you might find it interesting anyway

This comic by @streakofpith.bsky.social is small but deep with meaning, like a short, dense poem. For any patent it will touch you deep down to your core. I've read and reread this numerous times now and cannot get it out of my head. Wonderful stuff.

@drivethrurpg.com this is solipsistic at best, utterly cowardly in reality and shows where your politics lie. I will no longer be purchasing from those who crumble to the far right.

The 40th Anniversary Special of Scream is phenomenal, especially Inverted Burial by @anadapta.bsky.social . Still got that feeling of claustrophobia, especially reading this panel. Outstanding atmosphere.
Panel from a comic strip called Inverted Burial. Two long horizontal panels spanning the entire page, without borders between them and showing three figures in silhouette crawling along some very narrow and dark tunnels.

Another amazing discovery thanks to the Page45 Comic Book of the Month. Loved this with a sophisticated art style reminiscent of Oscar Zarate. I do hope more of Fior's stuff has been translated.
The cover to the comic Hypericum by Manuele Fior. It shows the last three quarters of a bed with legs sticking out from beneath a quilt. A hand dangles holding a cigarette over a full ashtray, and there are flowers standing in a kig and a couple of books on the floor at the side of the bed. One of the books is called Berlin.

The bed is actually a mattress on top of some pallets.

This from @pauljholden.bsky.social and @johnreppion.bsky.social is phenomenal. If you've any interest at all in folklore, gorgeous art and great writing then you owe it to yourself to pick this up. Entertaining and informative, it is wonderful (a fave for me being the tragic story of Medusa).

Exegesis Lovecraft on Prime is a great documentary that doesn't duck the racism question but doesn't let it derail everything either. Really impressive.

Henry Flint reminds me of Frank Miller circa Dark Knight Returns in @2000ad.bsky.social Wonderful work throughout this Dredd tale, coupled with Arthur Wyatt and @robwilliams71.bsky.social making me absolutely hate Robert Glenn and Hernandez. Seriously this strip is one of the highlights of my week.

Is Cliff Robinson not the definitive 2000AD cover artist? Every single time he does a cover it is a masterpiece.

Final instalment of the best Dredd story in years concludes brilliantly (and another masterful page below). Thabks to @robwilliams71.bsky.social @pauljholden.bsky.social Peter Doherty and Simon Bowland for showing what @2000ad.bsky.social is capable of at its best.

Great new issue from @2000ad.bsky.social with a more thoughtful Dredd written by @robwilliams71.bsky.social and fantastically drawn by @pauljholden.bsky.social Looks like a homage to the great Carlos Esquerra with these panel borders.

The current Dredd story by @robwilliams71.bsky.social and @pauljholden.bsky.social makes buying 2000AD worth it on its own. Getting definite Steve Parkhouse vibes from this panel.

Roaming by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki is the Page45 Comic Book of the Month. Possibly the best work they have done to date (and that's a high bar) with a great acknowledgment of the indigenous peoples at the end. How wonderfully expressive is this art too.

Birds of Prey #1 by @kellythompson.bsky.social Leonardo Romero and Jordie Bellaire, is excellent in every way. Curious about this panel though, with everyone facing away from Canary. Assuming this is symbolic (Canary feeling isolated)?

Thomas Girtin The Forgotten Painter by the legendary Oscar Zarate. I’ve been a fan since coming across his work with Alan Moore on A Small Killing, and this has left me speechless. A master of his art at work. Educational, dramatic and emotional.

Isabella and Blodwen by @rachaelsmith.bsky.social is a wonderful work of fiction. Fun but with serious themes running through it. We could all do with a Blodwen now and again. Once again I’m imploring everyone to pick up one of these books. You will not be disappointed.

More LICAF goodies. Armed with Madness by @maryt.bsky.social and Bryan Talbot continues the high standards set by their previous. Also a masterclass in the use of colour within a comic. Now filled with a desire to search out more about Leonora Carrington.

Dark and disturbing and even better than Through the Woods. Emily Carroll is a master of atmosphere and getting under your skin.

The wonderful @rachaelsmith.bsky.social and her Quarantine Comix. Trust me you will laugh at her humorous observations, curse Barky (the jerk) and cry happy tears when her and Rob can be together again. Also marvel at the fabulous drawing she did at LICAF.

Further LICAF goodies - Kev F’a Comic Tales From The Bible by @kevfcomicartist.bsky.social Don’t you just love the old EC Comics Tales From The Crypt design. Irreverent and funny that put me in kind of Larry Gonick’s Cartoon History of the Universe.

More great stuff from LICAF. This a series of vignettes from a French artist living in London. interesting to see your home country in a different (and positive) light. Gorgeous art and lettering. Lucie Arnoux is definitely one to watch.

More goodies from LICAF. A lovely collection of Sarah Andersen’s web strip Fangs (courtesy of those lovely people at Page45). Guaranteed to raise a smile. This was my first encounter with the artist and I now need more.

Feral & Foe by Dan Abnett and Richard Elson is as entertaining as ever. Witty dialogue coupled with smooth, imaginative art, an intriguing story makes for a great read ( not forgetting effective lettering from Jim Campbell, especially for Wrathchilde’s speech).

After what has been, for me, a bit of a lacklustre run of issues, @2000ad.bsky.social hits its stride again with prog 2351. A stellar line up of stories and creators. Rob Williams hits his usual high standards on Dredd, with PJ Holden providing more traditional art, with a modern twist.

Glass Half Empty by @rachaelsmith.bsky.social is every hit as great as everyone has been saying. Touching, heart warming, insightful and funny too. Love the emotion she gets into the facial expressions. Anybody who has given up booze for any amount of time will recognise the truth of this panel.
A comic panel showing a young woman with a soft drink in her hand thinking about how we have to justify not drinking.
