My experience with the Downtown Clean and Safe hired security has been largely positive—much better than with police. I used to be down there weekly and we were/are very friendly with all that worked near where we served meals. So, could it be a net positive if done well?

No way should we use PCEF funds (not the interest) to pay for cops. I'm still not convinced they're even going to protect citizens. Look at how they've behaved at Macadam ICE protests. They serve us not the Feds. Our only effective leverage over them is (seems to be?) funding.

Good job! Unsatisfying result, and this regime needs the spotlight on them. They will have to be held accountable for their failure to comply with oversight. It needs to hit the little guys, too. They need to know that complying with unlawful orders is a problem for them.

Councilor Avalos made a great argument for why process, as tedious as it can be and for as easily as it can be tossed aside as "bureaucracy", is also highly valuable. Especially when you're trying to build in fairness and build up trust. #process #equity
