Ultraman 4K Discovery is one of the few things I nabbed in the sales this week. The MSRP was way too high for what is basically a selection of 4k compilation films that act as a sampler to the remaster, but $35ish isn't bad.

Star Trek: Section 31 4k steelbook isn't on sale during all the sales that just started. Only Star Trek I don't own on home video. I've been able to hold out based on the price so far, but I don't know how much longer I can last.

No, but I have the Saban art they used to 'make' the hat if that helps.

Why do the 20 second gag ranger suits in Scrubs look better than a good number of actual ranger suits?

Power Rangers is trending? Perfect time to tag @mach-dent.bsky.social, and walk away without laughing or commenting further...

Really pleased it has the Spanish-adaptation on the same disc. Filmed on the same sets, at the same time, as the English version, it features Carlos Villarías as Dracula. Similar, but feeling different in a unique way that you need to see to understand, it's fantastic to have both together.

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

No need to comment much on the 4k remaster of the 1931 version of Dracula. Looks great, one of the best known films there is with Bela Legosi defining Dracula... probably forever. Fantastic disc, and...

Someone mentioned how bad the old BD was for the live action Flintstones movie yesterday, so I pulled out the 4K to eyeball. Basically perfect. A few of the CGI effects have iffy compositing, but for 30+ years old... Fantastic remaster.

When a movie is getting a new release, but the discs are the same as a version I already have... Haha, I don't need it! Oh wow... that is some nice collectible-style packaging...

A new Garfield platformer is out, and it's pretty cheap. Hmm...

Lupin the IIIrd: The Immortal Bloodline An interesting finale to the IIIrd series as a full film after a stack of OVAs. Has a very different feeling to those OVAs, although I'm not quite sure it's connection to a well known Lupin story works as well as they want.

For a moment I thought they had announced a new Scooby-Doo film, then I realized the subject line just summarized different titles.

The people who talk about random scans of old 35mm films, and think that's how the movies are meant to look you should take as seriously as the people who swear to you the Mandela Effect is a real thing. Yeah yeah yeah man, I know, you remember Sinbad in a genie movie.

I vaguely remember waking up earlier and remembering something small, but important, that I needed to do. I don't remember what it was... or if it was just a dream.

There is very little to say about the 4k remaster of UHF to be honest. It just looks utterly gorgeous.

Warner Archive is trying to distract me from Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated on Blu-ray vanishing by announcing a Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip BD set.

Kickboxer 2 getting a nice disc still feels surprising. Looks mostly solid based on a skim. Plus a commentary & nearly another hour of extras. Whole stack of direct to cable/video movie sequels I'd hope get something as nice as this. (I know it had limited theatrical.)

Was I yelling at Brady the last few days I was working on Samurai Pizza Cats out of frustration? No. But I was very stressed by the end making sure references were as much correct as possible & various oddities were cleaned up. More stressful than all of Lupin the 3rd Part II combined.

My only take on the Metal Gear Solid 5 voice stuff coming up once again... They should have used Hayter in Ground Zeroes, and made a big deal about it, saying it's his last time, etc.

According to tracking info... After sitting in my city and not moving for 3 days, as of a few minutes ago, my 4k copy of Riki-Oh is now... In Sacramento for some reason.

It's interesting, because... if you used to get a Steelbook that had an issue, it was always shipping damage. Now they are clearly production issues, as WAY too many Steelbooks just are not closing.

143

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake mostly looks pretty good. I do wish the graphics felt slightly less "seen this around", especially since Zelda often does interesting stuff w/ graphics. Faces feel off & clothes feel overtextured in a way that feels distracting are my main concerns.

241

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Happy 60th to Star Trek. I'll celebrate it in the best way, which is seeing clips and good thoughts from fans, and ignoring the loud angry ones. Plus a Steelbook arriving of a Trek movie I already have (the exact discs in fact), I just very much need the movie poster on a Steelbook.

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

From a quick skim, the Gkids/Shout disc of Your Name is solid. I worked on the UK 4k disc a number of years back, I'd say the US disc is roughly identical based on a quick look visually. Audio & subs are a bit different (no dub w/ ENG songs as an option for whatever reason.)

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Coyote vs. Acme Truly a great & entertaining film. Witty, uses the characters well, has more than a little bit to say about a shocking number of things. A question got asked near the end that had me crying. Casting was perfect except maybe one voice that stood out for a key reason.

The problem with 7am Nintendo Directs. I will literally be talking to friends about how I'm tired, not gonna get up for it, will check the news after. And 5 minutes before start my brain wakes me up anyways. That's gonna happen TWICE in the next few days.

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

Tiger on the Beat hasn't suffered as much as some other Hong Kong classics on home video, I recall there being a solid DVD or two even. The 4k release visually is about as close to perfect as I can imagine based on eyeballing it. I still need to rewatch it fully, as it's been a long time.

171

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

I fucking love Resident Evil, for a very long time. I haven't seen 'any' of the movies, because they all looked like they sucked & didn't fit the world. (The last one I had some hope for early on...) This is the only time shit feels right & seeing various people freaking out is eyeroll inducing.

I always look forward to a new Transformers the Movie release. The last 4k release looked so good I remember seeing the limits of the animation and thinking it probably would never look better. I have better equipment now & would love better encoding, etc. to prove me wrong.

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 29/08/2026

Be honest though Jorg... Don't you miss the days when it felt like random nitpicks like that were the things fans complained about most of the time? Instead of 'waves arm' fucking everything under the sun?

The rash of "When did Vulcans become jerks and/or funny?" articles in the past few weeks really makes me wonder if people who write about Star Trek have watched Star Trek...

Putting plenty of videos on Bluesky for work, I've done a couple tests in the background. Bluesky video upload/processing speeds are now "a bit slow, but okay" as opposed to what it was before, which was "hitting myself with a frying pan would be less painful than uploading this video on BSky."

0103

MarcFBR @marcfbr.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

The Star Trek: Strange New World puppet episode is offensive & portends the end of Star Trek. What's next... Sherwood Forest? Everyone is turned into Bond characters? Gangster planet? Who can say? I can say a lot of Trek fans need to remove the stick & have a laugh though.

Is anyone looking to buy a transforming Dragon Zord toy that can't do the actual transformation? Not sure why they'd engineer 'any' transformation if it can't actually do it. That's just throwing away money to make it worse. x.com/PwrRngr/stat...

Just this hour I found out there was more than one of those Jim Belushi K-9 films. They did THREE, plus a pilot film for a TV series. This might be worse than finding out they did Bulletproof 2.

A few people were upset I besmirched the comics. They've been stuck in a loop for years at this point, and it's all boring but also trying too hard. I rank it with anytime a Marvel writer goes "This is gonna be the new popular X-Men, you're gonna know their effect like snikt!"
