You still need to be a good programmer with these AI models. You still need to be a good UX designers with these AI models. I may be decent with design, but nothing compared to my UI/UX friends. I'm actually thinking of forking over money to hire someone to work on some website design.

One thing I have noticed that these AI models are bad at for programming: good interface (as in library design) design.

I often found the blind delegation to component libraries is not the wisest, but devs need something to work on. Design tokens come close. Let's focus on that. I've always wondered what tools are available for sharing design tokens. I just found out about this. tokens.studio

Tokens Studio is the design system platform for modern teams. Automate token workflows, bridge design and code, and bring order to even the most complex systems—without switching tools or rewriting workflows.

Just like how AI in 2026 is really bad at writing marketing copy and emails (it still hasn't improved, and that's fine), AI is really bad at software architecture. But AI is really good at is answering "why". So good writing is knowing the "why". Good architecture is knowing the "why".

@minmi My personal experience with a lot of LLM text is that there is a specific context and framing that I held in mind, and the LLM just never wrote something that follows the same wavelength, so I need to context switch, and that takes time, albeit maybe a minute or two of going back and forth.

I previously praised AI for being able to solve some seriously esoteric computer problems, while also scoffing at just how "junior" AI is at software engineering. How does that make sense, you may ask? Seniority is not about being able to hack, but being able to build scalable and maintainable […]

The one thing missing, though is the permanence of these scripts. They've been entirely one-off. We have to tell these agents to write a script, and save it somewhere, if we want to repeat it.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, it's not personal software that AI enables, but one thing for sure: it's scripts for running complex tasks, that a one-liner can't solve. AI agents are writing fairly complex Python scripts to achieve what we want to achieve. Which, I think, is pretty cool.

The longest a commercial airline has ever glided was Air Transat Flight 236. It glided for 19 minutes, covering roughly 120 km. That said, there is hardly any reason for commercial planes to be gliding this long, so its usually ominous. You don't want to be on flight that's gliding, unless the […]

Embedding a chatbot in a website to "chat with the site" is like embedding a font-size selector to allow site visitors to select the font-size. You know, maybe we'd be better off if the site exposed an MCP endpoint and some system prompts, and let the user choose as to how to "chat with the site".

After using Claude Code to draft code to help make a fundamental improvement to the Linux kernel, Linux creator Linus Torvalds continued using AI this weekend and talking up its benefits. Beyond generating initial patches and a test program for that noted I/O enhancement, he separately talked up using AI/LLMs for making patches more decipherable to understand in the process the AI noted more long-standing bugs within the Linux kernel...
