I'm not a parent, but I can tell you how my parents arrived at my name. My mom wanted Katherine. My dad wanted Rhiannon. My then 5 year-old brother wanted Holly after his favorite TV character on Land of the Lost. My brother won.

This is a very important point. The intellectual work that the right is trying to finance is shoddy and would not withstand peer review-which is why a key part of the movement is to replace peer review with "viewpoint diversity." The question is how to convince ppl to support humanistic scholarship.

The way I typically judge both ideologies and technologies is by what they do. Not what people say they do. What actual consequences they have for people. If they actually make things better, then they can be viewed as good/beneficial. But if all they do is harm, no future promises are worth it.
