why are you trans? wrong answers only Many millions of years ago, on the planet Cybertron, life existed, but not life as we know it today. Intelligent robots that could think and feel inhabited the cities. They were called Autobots and Decepticons, but the brutal Decepticons were driven by a...

If attendance at a major women's conference was down 80% due to a boycott fighting against trans *inclusion*, it would be all over the Times, Telegraph, Mail etc. This last weekend, attendance at a major women's conference was down 80% due to a boycott fighting against trans *exclusion*. Crickets.

Personally, I really miss when space was black with sparkly bits. Nebulae are fine and all, but space should be black with sparkly bits.

Looking into it, yeh, seems to be the case. Her quote: "When two [sexual] scenes were put into 'The Naked Now', in addition to other scenes which I felt debased the female characters of the series, I put my sentiments into a frankly worded memo of comment on the script. My comments were ignored."

Early on one of the big concerns with TNG was that it would fail to connect with fans of the original series, so they tried various things to address this. This ep was one of these attempts, a sequel to a TOS ep that tried to recapture an element they deemed core to the TOS style: horniness.

But we must consider potential benefits in productivity, medicine, scientific discovery. And even if we DO slow down, other countries might not...

We'd get to see the ship without the compartment, which would have looked interesting. Maybe that's not something that was possible with the filming model.

The real tragedy is we never saw the whole interchangable rear compartment concept played out on screen - would love to have seen, for example, a situation where they have to emergency jettison the rear compartment (because it has a bomb on it or something).

I think often they *wanted* the feel of a more cramped shuttle-like environment, as there are at least a few examples of the 'I'm stuck travelling with someone I dislike' trope played out in DS9 eps.

A brief tutorial on how to do this effect in Blender. First, animate and render a regular beauty pass, but do so by leaving the ship static and animating the camera (actually how most physical model shots are done). Then, turn off all sun lights and such, and give the ship a nice blue fill...

Incidentally, this effect can easily be adapted to make the Superman titles effect, or the Star Wars hyperspace stars effect, as they both used the same motion-controlled long-exposure camera trick that this method emulates.

Also a brilliant examination of how important the language we use to discuss things is: Picard doesn't even think about the link between what is happening with Data and the concept of slavery until Guinan points it out to him, because it simply hadn't been discussed through that lens.

What is consciousness? What is sentience? These are philosophical question that have been asked since the dawn of time. How lucky we are to live in a time where 7 people in Northern California realised the answer is “being able to predict the most statistically significant next word in a sentence”

Artists: never, ever restrain your vision for fear of being too over-the-top or exaggerated. Look at our actual, real world. Thousands of traumas more painful than you could ever write and thousands of joys more pure than most can imagine both happened today, to real people. Make bold art.

Seems like the American Northeast is the closest to my Hampshire (south England) accent, which makes some amount of sense. I had no idea that some of you had a word for 'the night before Halloween'.
My 'dialect map'. A map of the US shows mostly in blue, with some red bits in the Northeast and some orange in California and Florida. Text reads: "You talk most like someone from Rhode Island - about 40% of your answers match a typical resident." Below there is a list of most and least matching cities, and some 'giveaway' answers, such as that I answered that I pronounce the words Mary, merry, and marry all differently.
