There *are* some wacky results in quantum physics that might be explainable as tiny interactions between parallel universes, and I think those also involve quantum superposition. But I agree that the book does not go out of its way to draw any of these connections.

For all of its faults, one magical thing about the broadcast era was stumbling onto a show in the middle of its run, picking up odd reruns in syndication, and never being sure you’d seen it all: the rest of the show was constantly a hazy, unknown territory, often making it seem bigger than it was.

You could begin the whack-a-mole game of setting up inbox rules to automatically tag/move messages from certain senders, which then gives you a sort of multi-tier inbox: first check the folder/tag for known good senders, then work down in priority.

I felt like there were *some* changes in the characters, but it was like 10 years worth of development, rather than 20. A lot of the themes—like Miranda being chided for certain expressions or having to hang up her own coat—gel t like they were calibrated better for 2016 than 2026.

Makoto Shinkai’s filmography is fantastic (Your Name was one of the highest grossing films in Japan). One of the trademarks of his oeuvre is the level of detail/activity outside the direct foreground; he pioneered digital 2d techniques with tons of layers (which weren’t practical with old technique)
