mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Exactly! Looking at how Sunrise series have had lower and lower episode counts over the years, and adding notorious cheapskate Bandai Namco on production, it was pretty much dead in the water. And seeing how anime series overall have dropped episode counts in the past thirty years... 110
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I feel that's the best way to look at it. It was never going to live up to fans' expectations, and the amount of people complaining about exactly that is kind of depressing. 110

mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 15/09/2026One of my current favorite series (History of the Kingdom of Orcsen) is a fucking love letter to logistics in war, especially for a fantasy race with high calorie requirements. The manga version tones it down, but the novel makes it very clear that easy access to food makes for a successful army. 000

mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Really, the Mashou are fucking lucky that their armors apparently kept them from flat out dying from those special attacks. mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Ugh, steam burns are the worst. You don't get the nerve damage of regular burns, so you feel EVERYTHING the whole damn time it's happening. I'm not speaking from experience, thankfully. I have a delightful book by a Medical Examiner (Working Stiff) that has a horrific case of this. 100
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 10/09/2026We're talking firestorms that could wipe a city off the map, or sandstorm that grind whatever's caught in it to nothing. Hell, Touma and Seiji could probably create a ground level thunderstorm and use lightning as a mass area attack. 100
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I was trying with this idea for my fic, mainly via an OC asking about this. If they would team up for elemental combo attacks, they would be fucking terrifying. Touma could turn Ryo and Shu's abilities into full on apocalyptic disaster scenarios for their opponents and their surroundings. 100
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Element wise, I think Shin would be the most dangerous out of all of them. Water can be fucking scary. The giver of life, the taker of life. mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Long story short, anime is expensive, the sales model has changed over the years, and I'm suspecting that Sunrise execs weren't willing to take a very big chance on this series. 110
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 20/08/2026But modern anime just doesn't run as long as it used to. This is a sequel to a series that first aired almost 40 years ago. It's not a powerhouse property for Sunrise like Gundam. And even those series seem to be ending abruptly recently due to being limited in episode count. 110
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 20/08/2026I love that we're actually getting to know the cast this time around, and that we actually get to see their former enemies actually working alongside them and being helpful instead of just disappearing entirely. 110
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Exactly! The original was slow as heck and we barely got to know the cast outside of the plot until the OAVs! And the characters' backstories and family were banished to audio dramas and novels that never got official English releases! 110

mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 13/08/2026I want to know more about the production for this series. It feels like more episodes were planned before they got cut down to 24. Sunrise has done this before. Escaflowne was originally supposed to be longer, G-Witch apparently just ends suddenly. 000
mandyan.bsky.social @mandyan.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Personally, I'm wondering if the VR is an intentional callback to Gaiden. Heck, it would be hilarious if that was the only OAV that's canon to this series, seeing as how it was ignored by the following OAVs. They already proved that magic and technology can mesh in this franchise. 100
